Energy, energy.....where art thou?

A barrel of oil is runing $58 and going UP as I write this and we are facing with an electricity shortage in North America.
Meahwhile.......
Back in Canada, we b*llSaperlipopette through life, thinking that electrical power will come to us from heaven. I keep hearing tree huggers talk about the "hydrogen economy" and how it will solve ALL our energy problems and in the end, all we will get for poluttion is clean water. They do not have a freaken CLUE what they are talking about. The minute you ask them how they are going to get that hydrogen, they expect it to come from “somewhere”. They must think it grows on trees or comes out of the butts of cows. You need a POWER SOURCE (electricity) to create that hydrogen and they only REAL AND VIABLE choices are nuclear and coal. BOTH. Period. End of story.
Hydrogen is nothing more then a MEANS to transport energy. It is like natural gas but you must create it by pouring energy into it. Hydrogen is everywhere (water H2O) but it is NOT in a free state.
Anyone who thinks that you can get electricity from “wind mills” and “solar panels” is either uninformed or just plain slow up there. To get a clue on how much energy we use in Ontario, it would take 26,000 HUGE, 150 foot high windmills to replace the electricity we now produce by nuclear and coal. That means that you could not go to any corner of Ontario without seeing windmills. Then of course, there will be no birds left because they will smashing against all those windmills. Of course, we would have to wait to start cooking and washing until there is sufficient wind to power all those windmills. Unless…..unless we all go into “burrito generated winds” to power those windmills.
Wait a minute….
We have solar panels! Sure….*as he rolls on the floor with insane laughter*
To create the amount of energy we need on a daily basis, we have to cover 5% of the Ontario land mass with solar panels. FIVE PERCENT. If you think that we are using arable land and forest land now, wait until we have to cover as much ground area as we do in houses and roads with solar panels. Then of course, how do we store that energy overnight? Or do we just wait around until it’s a sunny day before we can function as society? "Tomorrows forecast is cloudy with a chance of electricity 30% of the day". Of course, I forgot, we could store all that energy we need into hundred trillion D cell batteries. But wait, disposing of them pollutes! What about lead acid batteries? Sure, think of all that trillions of tons of healthy lead we will need. To say nothing of the two house size batteries in every corner of every block of every town and city.
We can conserve. Sure! To a LIMITED point, BUT we need to function as a society. Are we going to go back to wood fires to make our food? How about wringer washers? Bicycles for all in Canada? That would be great! We can all stay home in winter since we can’t bicycle on ice. And as far as heating our houses, well, I hear caves are pretty good shelter if you can get the bears out.
If we are to function as we are in our current society, there is no REAL alternatives to our energy needs other then with coal or nuclear. ALL THE OTHERS are fine and dandy but only to a very LIMITED extend. What we MUST do is working on and BUILDING safer nuclear plants and cleaner coal plants if we are to function as a society.
When do we need to do this? YESTERDAY!
Then of course, we do have tree hugging alternatives.......
...anybody know of a good cave I can rent?
