I will be in Montreal, May 28 thru June 1. I'm not certain of when I will have time off, but if any Hab's R US members want to down a beer at Magnion's or a smoked meat at Schwartz's, email me and I'll try to find some time for a quick one. We can put a face with the angry words and meet in a civilized manner like Bettman and Goodenow.

Sounds possible, though I can't promise at this point.
Since we grew up roughly around the same time and in the same neighbourhoods it would nice to chew the fat (as it were) over a platter of Schwartz's medium.
Beer at Magnan's? Well sure, but the roast beef cannot be left unattended. Same as it ever was. And the canal (not meaning to get romantic here) is probably not what you remember it being.

I'm no longer in the Montreal area.
But I wish you a fun trip.

I've found Montreal to be a lot nicer than it was when I was growing up. I was there six times last year, the canal lost the junk tires and is now a beautiful park for cycling and jogging, Old Montreal is cleaned up like Disneyland (not sure if that's good), whitewater rafting on the St. Lawrence that doesn't smell as bad, and people are outside walking like they did in 67 and 76. Everyone speaks French, but they are much more tolerant of my attempts and help me freshen up my jouale. The potholes are not an inconvenience but a tourist attraction like the Olduvai Gorge in Africa. If you are careful, you can find the bones of Champlains sailors.
