Just heading out the door so I can't really comment but here's a link to an "interesting" (inufriating?) article I read last night.business.bostonherald.com/businessNews/view.bg?articleid=101320
So last year Exxon set a record, with a peak quarterly profit of $8.4 billion, and a yearly profit of over $25 billion.
According to this article, they appear set to soar past that, with a record quarterly profit of over $10 billion. Yearly profits I am going to assume in the $30-40 billion range.
Wouldn't it be great if the major oil companies "rolled back" their profits from 2005 to 2004 levels, and donated the rest to Katrina relief? I mean, they're reaping untold benefits from this human tragedy, you'd think they could give some back. $1.6 billion from Exxon, another few billion from other major oil companies, pretty soon you'd have a significant contribution, no? If they rolled back their yearly profits to 2004 levels, they'd probably be close to a $100 billion that could be used to rebuild.
Wouldn't that be great?
Sigh.
You mean you didn't buy oil stocks? Why?
W live in a world were the big fish WILL eat the little fish without any remorse. Soif you don't want to be eaten alive, or at least have tiny chunks biten away at their leasure, you plan and move one step of the big fish.
All joking and "philosophising" aside, the rules of the jungle have only been "civilized". You, me and everybody else on this board MUST look after ourselves because NOBODY else will.
One more thing.............
I have written before and and I will write it again and scream it at the top of my lungs. I seriously fear very tough times ahead and we must ALL prepare for it. The curve of the
personal debt loads will intersect with the curve of rising oil prices and create a "critical" point which WILL set us into a nasty recession.......if not a depresssion. Too much debt, rising oil prices, decreasing manufacturing jobs, self serving goverments and basic human greed will topple our economic house of cards.
