Looks like we need to beef up our Euro scouting. There is nothing out side of maybe Perezhogin to get remotely excited about here.

Thank you Dmitry. I wonder what your opinions of the forward Buturlin, defenceman Kruchinin (he did come over here for training camp in 2001, did he not?), and goalie Tarasov are.

That explains all. It explains almost all The good partners mean much, but if itself to work will not be, will not be sooner also of partners:) Buturlin worked good. Not as good as Perezhogin, but good. I not so frequently saw him in game, but... IMHO, the place in Hamilton he quite deserves. Also it would be necessary to see Korneev in Hamilton , if he will not appear in CSKA (V.V. Tihonov - greatest coach !) , or in "Lada" (the team has the best defense in Superleague. it would be useful to get there training:) )

Just heard on sports. Denmark defeated US 5-2 at the World Championships. Kim Staal scored twice. Too bad he's signed long term with that Swedish team, I think he'd fit in well.

Yea he had 2 goals and 2 helpers for 4pts as Denmark rolled USA 5-1 or so. Staal signed a 3 year deal but I wonder if it is void if a NHL contract is offered. I believe that's been the case in the past, but I'm not sure.

But it only my opinion, instead of him In the beginning of a season he declared, that while is going to remain in Superleague, and about NHL does not think. Now season was finished - opinion could change Especially I heard, that his team has financial problems...

Also, if you have the time could you explain how Russian teams finance the salaries of their players? I have heard that there are now Czech players who get paid 3x the money they could earn in their homeland. Also I hear that a team's payroll can be financed by a combination of legitimate revenue and "under-the-table" (not necessarily gangster) money. The reason I ask is for clarification. Do you think that Andrei Markov will play in Russia next season? There is a rumour here that he has been offered $900,000 tax free by a Russian club. You had mentioned that he misses his son. Also his friend Oleg Petrov (the only other Russian on the Canadiens) was traded. Or is he just using negotiation tactics with Montreal?

<<how much by your best guess does Perezhogin earn right now to play hockey in Russia? >> I do not know, could I answer these questions, if worked in our tax police. Probably, yes. But I there do not work. At you questions of financing of clubs and salary of the players - opened information. At us - terrible secret. The exact information is not present. It is possible to do any assumptions proceeding of those pieces of the information, which has got in our press. On some data the budget of "Avangard" (Omsk) makes about 25-30 millions dollars. Thus as they are divided between the players - it is not known. But I do not think, that by all fifty-fifty:) And assumption that some Czech players can receive 3x the salary quite really. Each our team can declare only 3 foreigners players . Accordingly, teams try to take the known players (stars). It costs dearly;) I think, our situation with the closed information on the size of the salary- dream for Brisebois - How many money you receive for so average game? - No comments . And everyone are quiet << how Russian teams finance the salaries of their players? >> Differently. Some teams are financed at the expense of the budgets of cities and areas (republics) which in they settle down; some at the expense of the sponsors. That I shall write further can appear wrong, because the exact information on this theme practically is not present. All written - result of the analysis of our press. For example: "Spartak" (Moscow) receives support from government of Moscow; in the budget of republic Tatarstan is the article about financing a team "Ak Bars "; the sponsor of "Avangard" is the petroleum company ... <<Also I hear that a team's payroll can be financed by a combination of legitimate revenue and "under-the-table" money. >> It is possible to ask anyone Russian fan, and he will tell, that is convinced, that the situation just is those. A smaller part of the salary - legal; a large part - "under-the-table". The official information is not present. That is possible to not read all written by me except this phrase: " Official information is not present ". As to laugh, it is the unique official information... <<Do you think that Andrei Markov will play in Russia next season? There is a rumour here that he has been offered $900,000 tax free by a Russian club. You had mentioned that he misses his son. Also his friend Oleg Petrov (the only other Russian on the Canadiens) was traded. Or is he just using negotiation tactics with Montreal? >> www.faceoff.com/search/story.asp?f=/news/20030331/108309.html You have in a kind it? Before a season the correspondent of the newspaper " Soviet sport " Gennadi Boguslavski talked with Andrei . It is a part of that interview: - whether there were at you think will return to Russia? - Yes such thinks were, but I have left them. - Why? - In Russia it is possible will return always, but if to leave from here that will return back will be already was very difficultly. In last interview for "Sport-Express" he told : "For three years was in time to get used both to a team, and to city. It is pleasant Montreal to me in." And any word about possible returning. He had a very successful season. Has become one of the leaders of a defense of club. Any professional preconditions to leave team I do not see. BUT ... His contract was finished. His agent - Meehan. Meehan, while very successfully gets money from A. Savard (Let's recollect Brisebois, Theo ... ) Yes, Andrei has told, that misses about the son. But the speech thus went about year summer rest ... If about returning in Russia spoke Andrei instead of Meehan, I, in a current situation, would believe on... 90 %. But it has told Meehan (Correctly ?) . I am ready to believe in it less than on 20 % . However probability of his returning in Russia not zero.

It is a question not to me:) It to him and/or his girlfriend / wife;) Variants set, from " It would not be necessary to leave from Russia " up to " there are businesses (for example training) which it is necessary to finish " ...

Thanks very much, Dmitry, for your response.
I think what a lot of North Americans do not realize is the culture-shock and loneliness that many players from overseas feel when they come to North America. Being a foreigner is not easy wherever on this planet you go (though admittedly easier in some places than others). The temptations of a fabulous salary and the opportunity to compete with and against the best in one's trade are big motivations to be sure. But, if I could earn good money and stay close to my family and friends, I might well reconsider taking that long trip.

Dmitry, can you tell us something about Buturlin's skating? I have read that it is a weakness. Would it be a serious handicap to him in the NHL, or is it good enough? Also, is his good plus/minus this year a reflection of his linemates or teammates, or is he really a strong defensive player?

Dmitry, can you tell us something about Buturlin's skating? Yes, skating is weakness Lacks of skating he tries to compensate by high serviceability and activity In plus/minus he is third among the players of a team in regular season (1-2 amoung forwards) , second - in playoffs, and second overall. But, IMHO, it result of team's tactics - to be played strictly from a defense . In "Lada" only one player had negative value in plus/minus. And 10 players with plus/minus +10 and more. He looks like physical two-way forward. His capitan says ( www.hclada.ru/interview/index.phtml?pr=03-04-19 ): "Buturlin. The motor of our first line. Powerful , strong guy. Has the huge not spent force. Willingly takes game per itself. It is possible to rely on him and as on the partner, and as per capita."

It sounds as if Buturlin *might* still be a useful player for us. At this point, Canadiens fans are looking under every rock for NHL talent, both for our team and for trading. If you have it available, I think a lot of us would be interested in more information on Korneev. In particular, has he added any muscle and weight lately, and what exactly is his weight? I see it reported at 178 pounds/81 kilograms, but I seem to recall seeing the same figure since draft time last year. If he could play in the NHL at 190 pounds/86 kilograms (Niklas Lidstrom's reported weight), he might be very useful. I wonder how much of a handicap his reportedly poor shot is. Also, how his balance is and how strong he is on the puck, and how able he is to knock others off it. I wonder too what his potential as a forward might be. I understand he played centre at the 2001 WJC, and that he did well.

Korneev Konstantin : www.sura.com.ru/~dizelist/team.asp?CurrentTournier=379&Team=20&LANGUAGE=eAnd if you press on his name in list, you can watch full stats year by year. The same : Buturlin : www.sura.com.ru/~dizelist/team.asp?CurrentTournier=379&team=21&Language=ePerezhogin : www.sura.com.ru/~dizelist/team.asp?CurrentTournier=379&team=16&Language=eAfter ending a season in Superleague, in Moscow passed a championship of city. Played teams Dynamo, Red Army, Spartak, Soviet Wings (Krylya Sovetov). I have found statistics on 4 of 6 matches "Soviet Wings". Korneev games : 3 goal :1 assist: 1 He is well skater, strong costs on legs, doesn't avoid struggle (is not afraid to be pushed). The good, exact shot, but with game for club not frequently was possible to use shot. Before WC-2003 Korneev was in camp of national team and played 1 game as forward. I didn't see this game. But I heard, that it was the not successful experiment. There was a hearing, that Korneev in the following season will play in "AK Bars". Hasn't proved to be true. I heard that in him are interested "Red Army" (Moscow). But now he still in "Soviet Wings"

Yes thanks for the info it's very interesting. I have very high hopes for Alex Perezhogin, as he looked very good in the WJC's, and getting named to the Russian National Senior Team early this year was great to hear. I read somewhere that he was injured right before the WC's started, would he have made the team if not injured? (if he was indeed injured) I hope he gets signed over the summer, but another year in the RSL will also be good for him.
Korneev was solid in the WJC's from what I saw, so hopefully he adds some weight over the next few years.
Buturlin and Tarasov I would be surprised to ever see again, but thats just a guess.
