Toyota's mechanic is plainly incredible. The best with Honda IMO.
But they are extermely prone to rusting and generally have blah design (interior and exterior).
If what you want is to keep your car for a long time without having to worry about mechanic, Toyota is the way to go.
Most trouble free car I owned was a Toyota. I got rid of it because I was tired of looking at it...

The show is called Top Gear from Britian. Now that I'm living in Belgium I love this show. Very intertaining to say the least. With that Toyota Truck they have droped it, burned it, barried it, sunk it, crashed it, and put it into a building that was to be blown up. And it still works.
I have owned nothing but Toyota's (except for my BMW that I drive here):
1982 Corolla (parents car that I learned to drive on) 1983 4x4 (sold it to my dad - he still has it. +400K on engine) 1984 Supra (still have it, in storage in NS) 1984 4x4 (box rusted out, had to sell) 1993 4x4 (just sold it to move to belgium) 1999 Tercel (wifes first car, had to sell having 2 kids) 2004 Corolla (still have it, in storage in NS)
Love them to bits and I'm going to buy a new 4x4 (tacoma) when I get back to Canada in 2008. Can beat em.

My wife has a 98 Tercel. Now she doesn't put a lot of miles on it but it is great. Great gas mileage and all original parts except for the tires. Recently had to change thoe because they have never been rotated.

My father has a 1970 Toyota pick-up truck back in the old country. The thing drives like a truck but it still works. Wait a minute.... I just did the math! LOL! The thing is 36 years old! SHEESH! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ If they bring back the old style LandCruiser in a diesel, I will buy one. The idea of a car/truck that can go anywhere on the planet appeals to my "survivor" instinct.

I'm looking at getting something new later this year . . . a toss-up between the comparable Honda, Mazda, Nissan, and Toyota (domestic? not on your life!). I couldn't believe that the Mazda was rated #2 behind the Honda, though all are pretty close. I ruled out the Toyota because it looked so boring. In fact the reviews I read went so far as to call it vanilla! Bland loses.

Read Jeffrey Liker's The Toyota Way, and I swear you'll never want to buy another vehicle. You'll get a better understanding why Toyota will be passing GM as the world's largest auto producer very soon (and is already largest in terms of market cap).
The vanilla label for the Camry (NA's best selling family sedan) has really irritated some Toyota execs. As a result, they went all out for the styling of the 07 model. Its really sharp.
And nobody touches quality and customer service and loyatly like Lexus, which is astounding for a division barely a decade old.

A buddy of mine works in sales for Toyota. He says that the other car companys call Toyota the "Bland Bohemith".

It was actually the Camry that I was looking at first. Have a buddy with one (92? 96?) and he thinks its great. However, ooutside and in . . . can't get more plain jane. And though I'm not dealing with mid-life crisis (too involved in Habs-crisis) I want something with a little bit of spark to it. Accord has the get up and go; Mazda 6 has a sportier look. And since I never did get that bike . . .

Funny you should show this picture. I just came from the middle east about 7 months ago on tour. The pic you are showing is of a 2001/02 Landcruiser. They had plenty of them when I was there. Most of them were diesel.
