After the 2-2 tie with Denmark, Rivet said he's anxious to see Staal at the next training camp, he might challenge for a spot. Staal was the main focus of the canadian team, coaches told them before the game to watch out for him. Rivet tried to play with his nerve, saying "I will kill you at the camp in september". Staal never backed down.
Perezhogin almost made it to the russian national team but missed training camp because of an illness.

Here's a translated excerpt from Mathias Brunet's column in yesterday's La Presse:
Can Staal help the Canadiens?
One of the good things in this Championship is Danish, he’s called Kim Staal and he belongs... to the Canadiens. Staal has piled up five points in three games, which places him fifth among the scoring leaders, on an equal footing with Richard Zednik, Selanne, Martin Straka and Koivu.
This 25 year old was a fourth round choice in 1996, the first draft of the Houle administration, but we’ve never seen him in North America.
"He was supposed to come to our camp last September and to accompany the team to Vail, but he suffered a knee injury seven days before camp, confided Martin Madden Wednesday. He’s had good numbers for four or five years in the Swedish Elite League and we wanted to see what he was capable of."
Staal will undoubtedly receive another invitation this year "We aren’t able to say if he can give the same kind of performance at the North American professional level, said Madden. He’s foremost a finesse player (5' 11, 185 pounds). His style resembles a little that of one of our prospects, Jozef Balej. He doesn’t have Balej’s speed, however he has better hands.”

another finesse guy ? I've never thought of him that way, but I haven't seen him play. He seems to have more grit than you'd expect from a finesse guy. He's a Dane after all. The Viking blood seems to have thinned only in Sweden.
