55 Greek nuns on the run after running up debts from failed knitting business A group of Greek nuns have abandoned their convent and gone into hiding after running up debts of more than € 600,000 ($915,000) from a knitting business that went bust, authorities said yesterday. The 55 sisters of the Saints Kirikos & Ioulitis monastery in Sidirokastro, near the border with Bulgaria, had bought machinery worth ?250,000 with bank loans a few years ago. But despite supplying several stores, they were running deeper and deeper into debt and risking bankruptcy. "We have not been asked to intervene yet but we are following the case closely," a police official said. The nuns are believed to have taken refuge at another monastery in central Greece. Local media report the Church of Greece has offered to help the fugitives pay their debts. © National Post 2007 Well, HA? ;D [just a little comic relief to take your mind off Kovy]
