Ontario electricity charges will cripple you.

I received a notice that Mississauga Hydro is going to replace my meter with a "smart meter". They talk about it in glowing terms but they OMIT the pain that is following those meters.

They buried the rates deep into the article but here is what is going to happen to you electricity bill....

For consumers that already have a smart meter, it is presently up to the
local electricity utility whether smart meter prices are charged. After April
1, 2006 however, the Ontario Government's time-of- use pricing plan set by the
Ontario Energy Board will apply to all customers with smart meters.

Under the current price plan, for those without smart meters, consumers
pay 5 cents/kWh for the first 750 kWh of electricity they use each month and
5.8 cents/kWh for electricity used above that amount. Under the price plan for
smart meters, the price for electricity will vary based on the period during
the day when electricity is used. The periods are: on-peak (when demand for
electricity is highest); mid-peak (when demand for electricity is moderate)
and off-peak (when demand for electricity is lowest). These periods will be
different in the summer than they are in winter. Specifically, starting in the
spring of 2006, if you have a smart meter you will pay 2.9 cents/kWh during
weekends, holidays and overnight hours. During weekday hours when the demand
for electricity is moderate, the cost will be 6.4 cents/kWh. When the demand
for electricity is at its highest, you will pay 9.3 cents/kWh.


Demand for electricity is at it's highest when people get home and do their cooking and when they need the air conditioner the most. So when you need it the most, the electrical companies will stick it to you until you bleed. Instead of taking care of high demand periods with relatively inexpensive natural gas turbines, they prefer to rape your wallet when you need it the most. Why are they going to get away with this? Because the Provincial Liberal government has spend tens of millions in convincing the masses that it's THEIR FAULT that the rates are going up. Basically, in order to avoid the important energy question and plan for the future, the Provincial Liberal government rather CRIMINALIZE you lifestyle. This fits pperfectly and part of the "change of lifestyle" that eco-Nazis want to shove down your throat. Of course the DEATHS that this "changing lifestyle" will cause to older people who can't afford the increasingly absurd electrical bills for life saving air conditioning does not mean a damn thing to these people.

You think that this eco nuts are just a passing fad? Corporations are and will be using it to fleece you under the banner of "ecological responsibility". Amongst other things, you are paying hundreds of dollars a year for ehtanol in your gasoline and you don't even know it. Government will use it to throw away BILLIONS into stupid and useless programs. And you will sit there and take it because if you dare challange the whinning of the new religion, you are nothing less then a climate change criminal.

so now ecologists are responsible for the law of supply and demand? for that they should be locked up?

there are two solutions: encourage a more balanced load or build extra (and it is a lot extra) capacity in the system to meet peak demands. so which option do you propose?

Eco screamers are making it easy for electricity companies to bend us over. They are using it as an excuse to raise rates under the banner of "conservation" and "enviroment". If you live in Ontario, you have senn those endless ads about how YOU have to conserve because YOU are wasting energy. BTW, we already had a big junp in electrical rates and even worse jump in "charges" but that is NOTHING in comparison to what is coming down the line.

Ontario population is growing and the electrical demand is growing proportionally, yet other then runing another tunnel under Niagara Tunnel Project, there has not been any MAJOR investment in electricity production. There was suppose to be a couple of natural gas turbiine generators coming on line to take peak demand but as of yet, as far as I know, NOTHING.

Oh I forgot, we are playing with "green energy" at stupid cost rates. It cost 2.1 cent to generate energy from nuclear or coal but we will spend several times that much to look really sexy. I can see it now, brown outs and black outs on windless searing hot summer days but those wind towers will look really cool....standing still. Does ANYBODY in government have ANY BRAINS to realize that the hotest days of the year happen to also have the least wind?

Hmmmm.....kind of like gas stations raising prices during holidays and long weekends.

It's the "green" movement alright. Green as in $$$$....and Green as in "Envious that I'm not in on the eco-bonanza."

Then again, maybe it's not that easy being Green.

actually, i don't live in ontario, so i am free to squandor energy.

nuclear energy is the solution? wasn't that the problem in the first place? how after spending billions of dollars the reactors had to be closed down without even generating half of projected energy. anyways, isn't the ontario hydro company close to bankrupcy so where is the money supposed to come from? raise taxes?
