Searching . . . for
The Lady in the Car with Glasses and a Gun by Sébastien Japrisot [translated into English].
Difficult to find in a library; almost impossible to find elsewhere other than used (who knows what you'll get) via internet book stores (add another tenner to the book price for mailing -- bah!).
Anyone stumbles onto the book new lmk, svp.
Appreciate it.

Anyone stumbles onto the book new lmk, svp. Appreciate it. Will do, Franko. Can't get streaming here at work but by chance have you tried EBay? Seriously, a buddy of mine found a book he was looking for called, "The Devil's Guard." It's a very hard book to find because it went out of publication but he found it on EBay. Now, he knew he'd have to overpay for the book, but being an amateur history buff it is an important part of his library. It is about a group of SS infantry who left Germany either to escape persecution or found it hard making a living in post-war Germany. They ended up fighting for France in the French Foreign Legion and were the only unit the Veit Minh were actually afraid of facing. I can't pull up their book cover here at work but here's their patch: The book is highly sought after by collectors and historians and usually sells anywhere between USD $100-200 and it's only a paperback. Now, I'm not saying you'll pay that for the book you're looking for but you never know with EBay. Another place you can look might be right in Ottawa at Bytown Bookshop. The particulars are on the top of the page. I don't know where Arlington Ave is but there's a phone number on there as well. Let me know how you make out buds. Cheers.

Franko, If you want to borrow the book ask your library if they can do an inter library loan. I work in a library & I know this is pretty common. I did a search on www.collectionscanada.ca and found three copies of the english translation available for inter library loan. They were at the Vancouver Public Library, Halifax library system & the University of Western Ontario. Good Luck

Thanks, all:
I've been looking for a new copy -- out of print, so if it can be found it'll probably be in one of your out-of-the-way hometown bookstores that ordered it a dozen years ago and just hasn't removed it from the shelves.
Dis: hadn't thought of E-Bay -- looks like they might have a new copy -- I'm thinking about it (at double the cover price, of course). Better yet, a hard cover (impossible to find) at an excellant price. Thanks!
Before that I'd been on chapters.ca but not Amazon (didn't think about it, pth -- both have used but not new.
And jkr: believe it or not, I'm reading the copy fromn the Vancouver library -- got it earlier this week (have to pay my $2 inter-library loan fee). Worth it though -- liked the book when I read it last [however long ago that was] and had the urge to read it again. I like Japrisot's style. Unfortunately I only have a three-week window to read it, no extensions . . . which means that I have to share reading time between it and the other book I have from the library that is so requested that I can't renew [King John of Canada]. Good thing my week off do relax and read is coming up!

A Woman In The Car With a Cellphone In Both Hands Mowing PedestriansWhat? WHAT? You never heard of that one? Talking about books.... I once found "Sex Practices for Married Couples" written at the turn of the century. Absolutely hilarious in both outlook and "facts". It was in the local libraries USED BOOKS $1 and el cheapo moi just went by it. The only thing that I never understood is how does a library branch that is only opened since the 60's have a book that old. Donation? Meh, I should of bought it and asked the blond behind the counter to explain it to me..... chapter by chapter.
