Without a doubt, The Simpsons was one of my favourite shows growing up. But I finally gave up on the show around roughly 2003 simply because I just found the humour to be forced, and in general just plain...bad. A lot of it had to do with the series' prolific writers moving off to other projects either in ambition or dislike of general direction.
Anyway, I went out to see the movie this past Tuesday, and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. It seemed to be aimed at fans who had been with the series since the beginning, as some of its humour was really apparent. It was funny, clever, and sometimes brilliant.
Anybody else have thoughts to share regarding the movie, or the show in general?

I like the show but came to it late. I find it laugh oyt loud funny, unlike a lot of sitcoms that are on now.
I haven't seen the movie yet & may wait until Tuesday - it's only $4.20 here. A friend of mine took her son to movie expecting little - she has never liked the show. She found the movie, much to her surprise, very funny.

I've been a fan since the beginning, or almost... It's paradoxal, because you expect a lot from it yet you're sold on it even before seeing it. Was a tad worried because I found the quality of the episodes of the last years not to be as good as the episodes of four or five years ago.
I loved the movie, the first thirty minutes is basically like a very good simpsons episode, and then the rest of the story pans out really well.
Like Mattias said, the long-time fan will be pleased, because they really haven't forgotten any of the carachters. You won't feel neglected.
I went with people who weren't die hard fans but they also laughed a lot. Basically, they didn't try to re-invent what they had been doing for twenty years, and they didn't play it safe either. I'd recommend it.

Saw the movie as well. I haven't watched the Simpsons in years and was curious. It reminded me of a longer and better TV episode. Very enjoyable.

Been a fan for years but I don't think I've seen them all. In recent years I don't make time to watch the episodes. If they're on when I'm surfing, great.
Saw the movie with Dis Jr. earlier in the week. Felt kind of awkward ... was probably the only one in the theater that was in continual chuckling mode.
Duster, you're right in that it was like one long episode.
Fave episode; Frank Grimes.
Cheers.
