Today was election day here in Newfoundland and Labrador. NO real big surprises. There are 48 seats in the House of Assembly here. The final results are: PC - 43 LIB - 3 NDP - 1 The PCs got almost 70% of the popular vote. Liberals 22%. NDP 8%. There will be a by-election in one district in about 2 weeks. The Liberal candidate in the district passed away during the campaign and the vote was postponed. One of the districts (the incumbent is the leader of the Liberal party) will have a mandatory recount, since the Liberal leader lost by only 7 votes. Newfoundland has sent OttawaSteven Harper a strong message; we will not go quietly into the night, this province is on the cusp of greatness and ready willing and able to be a strong contributor in the Canadian federation - with or without his help. By the way, I voted Liberal ... go figure ... I believe in opposition and I am a disgruntled public sector worker.
