Missed it by a couple of days but Tuesday, January 22nd marked the anniversary of the Battle of Isandlwana. This is where half of Lord Chelmford's column was chopped almost to a man. Battle of IsandlwanaThe Battle of Rorke's Drift was engaged later in the same day but fought over a two-day period. A depleted garrison of British regulars decided to defend their tiny outpost from the Zulu instead of dispersing into the hills, which would have been suicide anyway. Here's a good website. Rorke's Drift VCWhat I like about this website is that it dispells some of the myths surrounding the the two battles. Have to run. Cheers.
