Four tonnes of hashish siezed by the HMCS Charlottetown. However, the article fails to mention that the escort ships were also raided and 10 tonnes of munchies were impounded as well. Canadian warship seizes four tonnes of hashish from vessel in Arabian Sea

HALIFAX - A Canadian frigate deployed in the Arabian Sea seized almost four tonnes of hashish from a Pakistani vessel last week.
Lt.-Cmdr. Mike Davie of HMCS Charlottetown says the ship was doing a security patrol off Pakistan on Feb. 18 when they began tracking an Arab sailing vessel with links to terrorist activities.
Davie says about 20 crew members boarded the traditional fishing dhow and discovered more than 170 sacks of hashish hidden in the fuel tanks and deck planking.
He says the boarding and seizure took about 17 hours to complete.
A Pakistani coast guard vessel apprehended the vessel and crew after the Charlottetown dumped the hash into the ocean.
Davie says it's the largest drug seizure for the coalition participating in the ongoing U.S.-led Operation Enduring Freedom.www.cbc.ca/cp/Atlantic/080227/t022727A.html

i never see hash on the west coast. 4 tons though? holy crap that's a lot of stoned people. One thing I couldn't believe about the BC was how open they are about pot. Everyone seems to be doing it out there. My best friend lives in Port Coquitlam (sp?) and I stayed with he and his family a few years back. We went to a few pubs and people really didn't try to hide all that much. They weren't smoking it in the pub but outside was a completely different story. However, here in Ontario they're still a bit more discrete about it. I haven't heard of too many folks getting busted for the odd reefer here and there. Its the grow ops they're after and they're all over the place. But the attitudes between Ontario and BC regarding this stuff are completely different. I get a chuckle every time I think of the government decriminalizing it. Still some bugs to iron out but I think its coming. Cheers.

completely different cultures from BC to Ontario. we're laid back here about things like that, most people agree it isn't a big deal, i've smoked with a cop, criminal lawyers, detox nurse and teacher, most people i know that smoke it have high stress jobs and just need a mental release. saw marc emery aka prince of pot last night outside the canucks game as he was looking for tickets.
for me its only a once/month thing, i know people that are "chronic" as we call it doing it daily and sometimes all day, and they get cranky and forgetful and kinda dumb, not something i'd ever want to have to deal with.
but yeah, just chilllllllll.
PS i don't believe the US gov't will ever "allow" canada to decrimanlize it. the US is who put a lot of pressure on the BC gov't to crackdown on the growops, funding terrorism i'm sure is what they used as the crutch for their argument. the previous gov't and cops knew it was going on, and it was estimated that it brought in more money to our economy (from the US tax free) than our lumber industry $9bil or so. so they just turned a blind eye, because seriously i've never met someone that smoked occasionally or frequently that were troublemakers. most of them stay home, watch movies and eat lots of chips, chocolate, whatever....it was also as i said above bringing a lot of cash into the economy that was being passed around to restaurants, clubs, pubs, retail and some of it laundered into real estate.
a good documentary on the cocaine trade in miami is called cocaine cowboys, amazing how coke basically built the miami skyline and drove their economy for years.

I better cut back for a while.......
Seriously, the government either has to allow an open market or not allow it at all. The government stuff grown in caves is nothing but a waste of taxpayers money. The THC content is so low it has virtually no effect in curbing pain. Those patients who have prescriptions to buy it and grow it still get it off the street.
The grow ops are mostly being busted because of the unsuspecting damage it causes to the homes used for such endeavours. I've been in many of them and they destroy a perfectly good home and can be concealed short term very well.
So, they just dumped it all into the ocean huh? That's the stuff Harper should be selling at home. I'm sure the Liberals would consider it.

That's the stuff Harper should be selling at home. I'm sure the Liberals would consider it. We had some excitement in the old neighbourhood, CV; Cat Woods for short. We had the S.W.A.T. team storm a house that was out of sight to us, but on the same street. I guess the giveaway were all of the different cars staying for 5 minutes then hightailing it out of there. However, about a year later we had another raid in the new end of the neighbourhood. Three houses side by side; never anyone coming or going; no mail delivered; brown paper on the windows = police raid. And they got quite the haul as well. Just about forgot the third one in the same neighbourhood. A guy was busted for a grow op in his basement because his vindictive ex-wife tipped les-boys-in-blue off. Oh the pain ...
