Was taken in the 7th round 217th overall. LD from Finland. 6'1 198 4-5-84. I was hoping we take Shinin or Byfulgien from the WHL.

Wow, is Byfulgien really 275 lbs? Is this the guy that had to skate on all fours in order to distribute his weight? Or is it the way he normaly skates?

He was at that weight, but has dropped a lot of it from what I read. He's under 260, and with his size I gotta think someone takes a flyer on him.

from the Gazette:
Oskari Korpikari (7th round, 217th overall) is a 6-foot-2, 198-pound defensive defenceman from Finland. At 19, he played in 23 of Karpat Oulu's 56 regular-season games, but all 15 playoff games.
"He'll be a regular in the Finnish Elite League next season and that's the same level as the AHL," Timmins said.

It means he who was picked 217th and won't make much difference.

From a Finnish poster on HF:
Oskari 'Aku' Korpikari born 05.04.84 Oulu/Finland 186cm / 90kg shoots: Left
Nobody knew this guy last year. Kärpät took Oskari to train with adults last summer and he took place in team with very good training additude and solid playing in pre-season games. Reijo Ruotsalainen (Kärpät coach) said that Oskari plays just like he wants defender to play. Reijo did'nt want to push Oskari with that big ice-time, he would have deserved. In few games Oskari was almost dominating and showed that there is coming "not so typical Kärppä-player" to the spotlight. I think that next year, if development continues, he'll hit to the 1st or 2nd line in Kärpät and will be noted also in other cities and also abroad. Personally I like style, he plays. Is very solid in defensive zone but also can hold the puck and makes good decisions, even when there is no room or time. Also I think that next year he'll get more ice time and more results on offensive zone.

Will Oskari get the opportunity to bodycheck Hayley Wickenheiser?

From a Finnish poster on the Habs newsgroup:
>Lauri, do you have any information on this kid? I understand he had a >successful playoff performance in his rookie SM-Liiga season.
Oskari Korpikari plays for a young team furthest away in north. The team Kärpät did very vell in the playoffs, losing it in the finals. The winner Tappara was coached better and got their peak performance in the last rounds fo the playoffs. Kärpät had better defensemen in their team, say Joni Pitkänen one of the top draft choises last year and Lasse Kukkonen, but Korpikari is much younger than these boys so he has much uppside.
>How does he compare, as a prospect, say with Mikkola or Jarventie? Any >information you could provide is much appreciated.
He is younger than those two, but his potential is higher.
