The 2002-2003 season was very significant for Cory Urquhart who turned 18 years old. His goal was to draw the attention of the scouts for the NHL entry draft, which will take place in June. At the time I write these lines, Urquhart can declare his mission accomplished. This athlete is among the best prospects of the Courteau circuit, and the experts expect that he will be selected in the second round of the draft. He accumulated 35 goals and 78 points this year. In spite of these impressive figures, Urquhart doesn't seem to trust the quality of his statistics: "One can't ever be content with oneself, one can always do better." Such is his motto, mentions Cory.
If he continues to progress as he has, Cory could improve his ranking a lot. He is dominating the series against Sherbrooke with 10 points in five games. "I don't have any control over my selection. All I can do is to maintain my concentration to help the Rocket. The best players are recognized for their performances in the playoffs, that's my goal", adds Cory in the Rocket's dressing room.
During the interview, which we must do quickly, since RDS journalists want his comments after a three point game, including two goals. Cory has become an impact player, he will have to learn how to live with that title. This year, he has worn an "A" on his jersey; in addition to doing well on the ice, Cory is also a leader off it. Another fact, Urquhart is impressive on the penalty kill. Such complete players are not found on every street corner. During our conversation, the young man mentioned to us that it was important for his team to remain disciplined. "It's necessary to avoid the penalty box, if we are to succeed. We can win this series against Sherbrooke but we must absolutely be disciplined". A rare commodity... perhaps...
