I had no idea until yesterday that existed right here in Kingston. Some daytime shots and a

The first link isn't correct, but the place looks like it could be haunted. You've been in Kingston for long and not seen that creepy building?

I never knew it was here either, CV. I don't believe in coincidences for a minute, but putting this asylum in an area that has nine correctional facilities in it seems bit too coincidental. Actually, the current psych institution is located very closely nearby on King St W (another coincidence? Not a chance). I go by that one almost every day on the way home from work. I think I'll detour down Heakes Lane on Friday just to take a look. Here's the Google map. Might be worth a peek. Wonder what ghosts you'd bump into? "Nurse Ratchet says we can't watch the ball game ... I think we should watch the ball game ... what do you guys think?" Cheers.

In those days, mid 1800s, some were convinced that every criminal was insane. They used torture, drug experiments, shock "therapy", solitary confinement in a coffin for weeks at a time, etc. Tell me there's no angry spirits there. Apparently there are shackles on the walls and no one goes into the basement where the morgue used to be. All of this came to be by some of our city's founding families; the Cartwrights, Coverdales and Hillcrofts. In it's hayday, the warden was a nut job himself who took great pleasure in "treating" patients until he was exposed for what he was and ran out of town. We live in a pretty cool city, historywise. Did you know the Canadian flag as we know it was first manufactured on Hillcroft? Hugh Segal used to live there. I went through it when we had it listed for sale upon his rise to Ottawa a few years back.

There's no angry spirits there ;D Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Today we have the Springers, Splinters, Greenwoods and Rosens ... don't get me started on Rosen or Springer ... Indeed. They're looking to rename a section of waterfront after Major-General John Bradstreet. He was responsible for taking Fort Frontenac without bloodshed, which was the original settlement for our city. Also, while Fort Henry never saw action, it was used in WW II as a prison for German officers. However, it was also the scene of a multi-execution as well. Google "The Battle of the Windmill," when you have time. Heavy artillery was brought in from Kingston and the "Hunter Patriots" eventually capitulated. Eleven of the patriots (Americans and other nationalities) were publicly hanged at the fort. Local lawyer, John A. MacDonald, even provided legal assistance to the Hunter leader, Nils Von Schoultz, but to no avail. Didn't know that mate. Often wondered why Segal never ran for the Tories though. Cheers.
