From a poster on the Habs newsgroup:
From: Nul (nul@nul.net) Subject: Some news on Chris Higgins On CKAC last night they were mentioning that outing-going Habs scout Pierre Mondou has described Chris Higgins as a meaner Keith Acton type player.
They went on to say that he's a pesty type player but not the kind that backs down when confronted like most pests in the league. Loves taunting the opposition into a frenzy but knows when to draw the line as to not embarrass his team.
He enjoys standing in front of the net even for his size as well as going to the boards. His feet are in constant movement. Has a goal scorers touch and should see anywhere from 25 to 35 goals a year.
Was very well respected and liked by his teammates at Yale.
All that sounds pretty good from here. If he lives up to only half of that billing I think the Habs will have found themselves a real keeper. Let's hope for the best....

Well I've only seen about 5 games of his, and I never saw anything close to him being a pest. He wasn't even very physical, as he used his stick more to check, but was very effective at it. His skating and smarts put him in the right position at the right time. His stickhandling is impressive, and he took shots from everywhere inside the blueline. He's 1st or 2nd line player all the way, IMO. He's got a ton of skill and he's solid in his own end.

Depending on what report you listen to, we now have this great character guy, who can skate and is solid at both ends of the rink, has decent offensive upside, and has a bit of jam and feistiness to him. All in all, very good news for us Habs fans.
Marc, better make room on that bandwagon of yours, you should be getting more company soon.

*drives the Higgins bandwagon and hopes people jump on before the kid becomes a star* Hey Marc...from HF right? While reading the thread here i noticed something interesting due to your quote. BTW, toss my right up there near the front seat...i've been there since the first time I saw him play. But yea...Higgins is described here as a pest...then I read your quote by Kastsitsyn about how he "intends to give the other team as much trouble as [he] can." Throw Komisarek in the mix, and I love Savard-style drafting! Not to discredit Timmins in anyway, but I think those guys think on the same level, and Savard's been around longer.

It's not quite accurate to label Higgins a meaner Keith Acton type player. He isn't a likely Lady Byng candidate but he's not going to pile up penalties and suspensions. I'll say this for Acton, he was a very intelligent player. Higgins is also smart. Still, I'm not convinced he'll become a 35-goal scorer. I'd say that eventually he'll fit nicely into the 25-goal, 25-30 assist range. That would be very welcome.

From wut i've read Higgins is an awesome player he plays very physical + he have some great speed a great shot.. he's very strong .. he's and hardworker with a great heart.. he plays well in defense and he isn't that small on WJC USA roster he's listed has 183 cm ! if it's true that will mean that he's 6'1'' foot tall and thats a lot! IMO he's a great character guy and i'll compare him with madden .. anyway our future will tell us how he'll be!! maybe he's our nest captain.. oh and take!

Welcome aboard Kryoptix! Pretty much everywhere I have looked, he is 5'11 and between 190 and 194lbs...Maybe that was with his skates on? THF

Higgins is about as tall as Zednik. At the WJC he did not look all that small. His size will not be a problem.
*opens more spots on the Higgy bandwagon* ;D

Higgins is 5'11", about 190, and he did bodycheck effectively when he was at Yale. Let's bear in mind that the opponents he was thumping in the ECAC are not as big, strong, and experienced as most NHL players. He'll have to learn to pick his spots when he throws his weight around. Otherwise, he'll spend time on the disabled list, and he's too valuable for that.
