I guess Gretzky needs an enforcer to protect Olli Jokinen. Ottawa just dealt McGrattan to Phoenix. Shane Doan is quite the agitator as well. Now he has someone to back him up as well. slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Hockey/NHL/Phoenix/2008/06/25/5984566-cp.htmlCould have used McGratton in Montreal, but it's not like the Sens would have dealt with a division rival. Cheers.

McGratton isn't one of those guys who can fight and still log a regular shift. I'd have passed.

He's a fringe player. No room for a guy like that anymore, thank Bob.

Too bad really. I mentioned maybe getting George Laraque in Montreal a few years back and everyone said he couldn't play hockey either.
McGrattan would have a limited role with the club, granted, but there comes a point in every season where folks will say, "... if we had an enforcer other teams would stop running our players."
I'll put it out there guys. Are there any other suggestions for an enforcer since McGrattan and Laraque simply don't cut it?
Cheers.

I'm old and my memory isn't what it used to be, but, I can't remember a game this past season where any of our players were pushed around. When an opponenet brought their physical game, we usually outhit them. None of our "star" players were intimidated. On occasion they targetted Kovy with tight checking, but one enforcer isn't going to change that anyway. We stood up to the McGrattons and Neils pretty well and other coaches find their goon a disadvantage on the ice when we don't cave into that goon hockey mentality. It would be nice to send out a Brashear to counter a Laraque but I think that spot is better utilized with a good two way player. Catch me if you can.
