Decided to check up and see at what level the teams our European prospects play with are ranked. The first number after the player's name indicates the club's ranking out of 250 European teams following the 2002-03 season. The number after the club's name is the current point score. The last number shows how many places in the ranking a team has gained or lost over the previous (2001-02) season. *** Puurula 3 HPK Hämeenlinna FIN 57,82 +2 Perezhogin 6 Avangard Omsk RUS 53,01 +1 Korpikari 8 Kärpät Oulu FIN 51,23 +12 Buturlin 11 Lada Togliatti RUS 49,07 +3 Kastsitsyn 40 CSKA Moscou RUS 35,60 +68 Eneqvist 43 Leksand SUE 34,81 +36 Korneev 78 Krilya Sovietov Moscou RUS 23,51 -51 Heino-Lindberg 95 Hammarby SUE 18,34 +69 - www.hockeyarchives.info/top.htm*** If anyone has additions, or updates as to club affiliation, bring 'em on.

Is HP-many-more-letters the 3rd best team in Europe in part because they have stellar goaltending, or does the fact that they have the 3rd best team in Europe mask the fact that maybe their goaltending is not so good? I wonder if we will be hearing more about young Mr. Puurula in coming years...

Me no understand..... Are you saying that Puuru;a is playing for the third best team in Europe? Hoq sis you come to that conclusion? I thought that the Russian league had the best teams? Puurula's team HPK was one of the top teams in the Finnish Elite League (SM-Ligia). They just had a great season. At one point they didn't lose 1 game for 5 or 6 Weeks straight. Puurula was in nets for most of those wins. But in the playoffs they finished 3rd in the league (they won the bronze) Having not seen Puurula play 1 game, I can't say how good he is. But it does say something when his team named him the starter at age 21, and got rid of the veteran who was the starter the year before. They did have maybe a even better goalie then Puurula coming up, boston's '02 1st round pick who will be giving Puurula a run for his money next season according to some Finnish posters. I do prefer the RSL, but it's tough to say which league is tops out of (RSL, SEL, SM-Ligia) as they have different styles. I am working on getting some Euro hockey games on tape. 2 games from the RSL (Perezhogin's team), and Puurula's playoff run from '02 where he was on par with Kari Letohen the Thrashers '02 1st round pick, but Letohen got the better of Puurula winning the 2nd round.

All of this sounds like projection upon extrapolation upon conjecture. I want to see these guys in action, not rely on an unchecked adaptation of a bug-ridden computer model riddled with human error.

Puurula's Finnish club is ranked third best in Europe. Though the Russian Super League is the best European league. The two evaluations need not necessarily be mutually exclusive. Presently the strongest leagues are, in order, Russia, Finland, Sweden. Sweden has dropped behind Finland because it has been raped and pillaged to virtual ruin by the NHL, though there is a strong wave of excellent young talent entering the league. The Swiss league is on the rise according to European hockey analysts.

The Swiss league is on the rise according to European hockey analysts. If I'm not mistaken, the Swiss clubs (Zurich? Lugano?) won the european Continental cup for two years in a row before last cup was won by one of the finnish clubs (Jokkerit?). R.
