Theoretical physics is a hobby of mine, so I read a fair bit about it online. This is really cool.. www.theblogofscience.com/evidence-for-a-parallel-universe/Besides, it sure beats beating climate changethe dead horse over and over. Anyway, I went to a lecture recently on string theory. One of the debated topics in the current theory is that these black holes need to effectively traverse into another universe, which is theorized to be very near (talking billionths of a micrometer) from our own universe along one or more of the seven dimensions(four of which are our three physical dimensions, and time is a fourth) in our universe. Interestingly enough, one of the focal points of the theory is that it is the collision of these two universes that created matter in our universe. The so-called big bang was in fact a minor collision of what are presumed to be two (I asked why wouldn't there be more -- i.e. infinite -- and was told that they applied Occam's razor for simplicity's sake) parallel universes.

Wow, another univers.....maybe another Earth...and another Cranky. ;D Are you sure? Then again, maybe in another universe you're not Cranky, but joyful? I guess that would be a perpendicular universe.

Wow, another univers.....maybe another Earth...and another Cranky. ;D Are you sure? Another universe makes sense. There has to be someplace that the leafs can win the cup??

In the alternate universe, Mr. Cranky is Mr. Nice. He doesn't want an übergoon, he wants an Lady Bynger. He wants Houle and MT back. As well as PB and PT. He doesn't have to take those little blue pills. And his Avatar:

What are the other 3 dimensions? There's actually, at least theoretically, an infinite number of dimensions. In mathematics, you take the amount of dimensions you need and work from there. Of course imagining things in these higher dimensions takes either ample use of mind-altering drugs, or general insanity (which some argue is a necessary condition for the study of advanced mathematics anyways). Where it gets really cool is when you're dealing with negative dimensions (suggested by Mandelbrot as a means of measuring the emptiness of a set). String theorists, I believe, postulate there are ten or eleven dimensions. Most of the time anyways. I'm sure I read something somewhere where someone suggested there were eighteen or twenty-five dimensions. Above basic space-time I do not think they have fixed names, and frankly naming them would be quite meaningless as they are well and truly beyond anything a human can experience. Without the assistance of heavy doses of mind altering drugs, anyways. You could call dimension n fizzlebottom, but it really doesn't make a difference. And when you're that heavy into theoretical stuff you usually stick to just named variable. On string theory itself, I have to admit that it's a nice idea - trying to unify all forces in the universe and what not - but it's still to spacey for me. All hand-waving and no real, testable results (from what I understand anyways, I'm not a scholar on this thing, nor do I have a strong enough grasp of even the basic concepts to make broad statements about it). It'd be nice if something actually came from it - manipulating the basic forces of the universe will give us all kinds of new and wonderful technologies - but its certainly not a mature science yet.

Well TNG, you are missing a lot if you don't brush up on String Theory........

Then again, maybe in another universe you're not Cranky, but joyful? I guess that would be a perpendicular universe. You know what you're describing don't you Red? Matter and antimatter tend to cancel each other out ... violently. And when two identical particles meet outside the corridor .... total and complete annihilation, Jim Red ... "And what of Lazarus ... what of Lazarus ..."

In another universe:
The leafs are winners, George Bush speaks and is understood, Bilingualism works, Osama bin laden is selling timeshares on Broadway and 42nd St., Guy Carbonneau and Michael Ryder are granted a civil union and married status in California, Hillary Clinton french kisses Reverend Jessie Jackson on Oprah, Georges Laraque wins the lady bing, oil is priced at $20 a barrel by kind Saudis to promote womans rights, President Kim of North Korea is drafted #1 in the NBA, damn, Raquel still looks good......
