It's getting clearer why Gainey didn't target any UFA defencemen. The defensive prospects we have in the system now look like they are a long term solution to what used to be a club deficiency.
Wish Carle luck for sure. I hope he turns some heads.

Even if he spent last season with the Hamilton Bulldogs and he is in his third training camp Canadiens defenseman Mathieu Carle did not come back to the Candiac complex.
"There are still technical issues I can improve on," said Carle who scored 7 goals and 17 assist in 64 games with (Hamilton Bulldogs).
Carle's development last season was slowed by a knee injury he suffered when he took part in a match with the Canadiens in September.
"I was kept out of the game for two months and it was hard for my return. I have experienced ups and downs before finishing the season strong while I was playing an average of 20 minutes per game. "
He wants to blur the cards
The 20-year-old athlete of Gatineau stands six feet and weighs 211 pounds. Even if Trevor Timmins said he still needs to refine his game, he acknowledges that Carle will be monitored the next training camp.
"I am giving myself the objective of carving out a place in training," said Carle on a firm tone. "I want to play in Montreal this season."
"I am aware that there are good defencemen already on the roster, but I will try to make an impression during the pre-season games."
Congestion in sight
Carle hopes to get the spot of the seventh defenceman in Montreal. He realizes that the task will not be easy.
The Canadiens are already well armed defensively with Markov, Komisarek, Hamrlik, Gorges, Bouillon and O'Byrne. Dandenault is still in Guy Carbonneau's plans, and the coach is still hoping to see Patrice Brisebois return.
Therefore, there is likely to be congestion on defence, because we must add the names of robust Pavel Valentenko, without forgetting that the Americans Ryan McDonagh and David Fisher, first choice at the draft, will also have their chance in a year or two .
To that list we must not forget to add two more defencemen who have done well in the Ontario junior ranks last season; Swiss Yannick Weber and Torontonian PK Subban.
The defensive first
Carle will be participating in this third training camp because he wants to improve his skating.
Even if he is found to be an excellent passer (" makes a good first pass" would be typical in English...) , the player drafted in the second round by the Canadiens in 2006 is aware that these are not offensive talents that will lead to Montreal.
"I have often said that I must make sure that I am defensively reliable. Before thinking about collecting points during the game, I have to concentrate on my defensive role. I need to improve my pivots."
The last season was very difficult for the Bulldogs, who went from champions of the league to missing the playoffs.
"We had, fortunately, a good group of guys," said Carle. When Carey Price, Jaroslav Halak and Mikhail Grabovski were with the team, we win our share of good games. But they have all graduated to the Canadiens and the Bulldogs have suffered greatly. "
