Many felt that the russianprospects.com review of Killer Kat was not all that glowing and made Kasty sound like a reach at number 10...well, if you look at this updated list: www.russianprospects.com/rp_players.htmKiller Kat and Zhoges get a 7.5 which is as high as any Russian prospect not named Zherdev and Bryzgalov. Anyone(montreal maybe?) have any idea why the sudden change of opinion on Kasty on their part? also, Korneev at 6 looks pretty nice to me for a 9th rounder.

This makes me question the judgment of that board. The Habs were not the only NHL team ready to take him at 10-13. Yet those guys class him as a 2nd rounder.

Yup. That was in their profile; which had to written a long time ago. And they obviously changed their mind about him recently to give him a 7.5...

Marc, Eugene has some issues in reguards to Kasty. He gave him a lower rank then many thought was fair, because of his limited playing time and a "rumored" fake birthdate. I have no knowledge of the story, just that there was a rumor that he is really 20 not 18, but no proof that I know of. His health, (back problems) and poor defense could also be reasons. Why he changed him to a 7.5 from a 7, I don't know, but I can ask him. Here's Kasty's junior stats from '01-'02. Team- Novo League-Belarus Jr. 29 games, 9-8-17 16 pims Also Korneev at 275th overall is looking very good. Habs Russian scout Nikolai, has gotten us some good Russians (Perezhogin, Korneev, and Kasty-I know he's Belarusian, but plays in the RSL+I got some quotes from him in reguards to both Kasty and Perezhogin)

thanks; are these good stats for a 16/17 year old in that league? what about this year's stats? I don't know since I don't have a clue about the Belarus Jr league. It got him signed by CSKA in the RSL, so he showed something, and as a rookie, and as a 17 year old he did get a small tryout with CSKA. (he stayed up for 6 game, 0 pts 2 pims) His junior stats from last year are hard to find, but I'm waiting on Eugene's article at HF on Kasty which will hopefully say more.

"Andrey Kostitsyn is a phenomenon raised onto the ashes of Balarus hockey school and traditions of Dynamo Minsk. Team leader for Belarus and its hockey for many coming years. He is a totally different player from Zherdev. Yes, he can skate well and is not afraid to go in the corners and works along the boards. He has an excellent scoring touch and can produce. His size is pretty surprising for a kid of his age. He is real senior with his height and weight." www.hockeyzoneplus.com/russia/rus124_e.htmlook at the last 2 sentences. maybe this kind of thinking started those rumours regarding his age? still, you gotta like what you hear about this kid: "Yes, he can skate well and is not afraid to go in the corners and works along the boards." me like it more and more R.

I mean 6'0" 190 lbs is great size for a gifted 18 year old goal scorer, but there are still quite a few bodies from the 2003 draft that are in the heavyweight and super heavyweight categories. Some kids develop at a different pace than others, so maybe Kasty has even more size to come. I agree with Rimmer on the fact that he at least is not afraid to get down and dirty in the corners. The knock on too many good junior goal scorers is their lack of physical play. Nice to see more of a complete package. The year at CSKA will do well to help with his big need for development...his defensive play...but that is also pretty normal for young goal scorers. BTW Mr. Bozo, great photo. Those eyes have focus!!

I could tell his disposition from the picture in the Hockey News Draft Preview. A black eye and a scab on his nose are not the marks of a peripheral playing, panty waisted, oh gosh golly, pretty boy. Another reason I was anxious to nab him. The things we perceptive talent detectives have to clue in on.
