According to TSN.
I didn't think Fletcher would be able to pull this off. Well done to him if it goes through.
Cheers.

Wow, they also have to throw in a draft pick to get rid of him, and only get Mike van Ryn in the deal? Yikes.

Had to wait til September 2nd....as McCabe's contract called for the Leafs to pay him a $2 million "signing bonus"...as odd as that sounds. Agree to waive a no-trade...and still make off like a bandit. McCabe's last play as a Maple Leaf. Fitting.

They put enough pressure on him to waive the no-trade & still had to include a pick to get rid of the contract.
If Fletcher's goal is just to rid the team of onerous contracts, I guess he did OK.

and you just know that McCabe is going to have a banner year away from the zoo. I believe so as well. This is the perfect example of a player who's fat contract created expectations that he could in no way live up to. That being said, he is a good dmen nonetheless, superior to Souray IMO, and once away from the jungle where the fans and medias are blaming him for everything and anything, he'll probably get back to being the solid veteran that he is.

One of the few times I agree with Millen.

Souray was at least a pretty good (his last season in Montreal he was fantastic) penalty killer. While vulnerable on the rush, Souray controlled the play down low with his physical play. Souray also never pretended to be something he wasn't: a fantastic passer. You see McCabe try to make pretty plays all the time which mostly come up lame. Know what you're good at and use it, then work on the rest in practice.

I'm personally looking forward to this coming season and finding out what Stewart has to give. He'll most certainly start the season in Hamilton, but should be our first call-up at forward (unless Pacioretty or another rookie steals the show). As far as one-game samples go, Stewart had about as good a single game as you can have without getting a point.

A line of him, Lappy and Big George would certainly be interesting...

Well, one thing that had to change was the Leaf chemistry. That just wasn't going to happen with Tucker and McCabe (some would add Sundin to that list as well) around.
It may have cost the Leafs some cash but now both are gone and I think that rebuilding process will be a lot smoother.
Their blueline corps is also getting younger as well. That's a major step in the right direction.
Heard Kubina might be the next captain. Don't know how that will pan out but what choice do they have really?
Cheers.

The number of draft choices Fletcher has given up is interesting. I can sort of understand giving up a second and third and swap of firsts to move up high enough to draft Schenn, but a 2nd rounder for Grabovski? Jamal Mayers might be worth a 3rd too, but all in all, when you give up that many draft choices for immediate, mediocre help, you're not going to improve in the long run. I wouldn't want to be a Leaf fan next year. Of course, HA would say this is the dark side's run at John Tavares, and he might be right. If they start overworkng Toskala so he gets hurt, then I'll be convinced.

I read this before leaving work today, JKR. I like Damien Cox because he's a shoot-from-the-hip kind of guy. He did a good job in giving a rundown on Fletcher's tenure so far, but like seventeen alluded to, I can't believe the amount of draft picks he's already given up. That was the primary knock on Ferguson, no? Cheers.

I would love to see Komisarek repeat his OT goal at McCabe's expense in a game against Florida. That would be too delicious.

I would love to see Komisarek repeat his OT goal at McCabe's expense in a game against Florida. That would be too delicious. Let's see it again. ;D TSN Game Highlights Typical flippant McCabe post-game comment. "Shoulda just put it deep...and...he read the play. What can you do?" You can move your eyes in their sockets for a start. The own-OT-goal in Buffalo aside...here's my favourite McCabe screwup. Round 2, 2004. Series tied at 2. Game 5 in Philly. The first goal in this highlight package. It set the tone for a 7-2 Flyers win. I was watching the game with my dad (a long-suffering Leafs fan)...and as the play was developing, my dad said, "Watch out now....don't pass it across....DON'T PASS IT ACRO.....STUPID, STUPID, STUPID!" The last highlight in this package is from the same game. McCabe gives it away to Primeau at the Flyer blueline for a shorthanded goal to make it 3-0.

They are so happy to be rid of McCabe & the others that they will accept the loss of the picks, even 2nd rounders. All they have to do is look at the Wings & the gems they found in the late rounds.

As soon as McCabe left Toronto, I dislike him a lot less.
