The masses demand their right to buy cheap goods......and the jobs are getting slaughtered PERMANANTLY. On this path, the long term future of Ontario and Quebec looks very...umm..."challanging" and "needy". Who is going to pay for the "expectations" of these provinces? And this has NOTHING to do with Harper but rather the cold, hard reality. That's what I try to tell everybody I meet who shops at those discount chains. Cutting our own throats. We demand low prices....but won't work for the wages that result in those low prices. Consumer mentality has to change here. I shop at "mom and pop" stores whenever I can. I see what you mean....but Alberta is on the path to stop equalization payments. And Harper is in tight.

...well I tend to think that this has a better chance to eventually translate into savings for the consumers and better economic sense than a carbon tax or blindly applying a protocol that no industrial country actually follow would. In the end though, Harper is made out to be the bad guy who doesn't want to save our endangered planet and gives money to the evil oil people. I'm not a sold conservative, but in the dire times ahead I want a pragmatic leader. Only an idiot would play with our economy to keep the sky from falling.

I heard on the radio this morning that it was the lowest voter turnout in federal election history.
Also heard that the Liberal popular vote was the lowest it's been 1867.
Cheers.

Hey...the majority of my hockey predictions don't come true....but this minority one did.... Pretty easy one to call, though, wasn't it? Like it or not, we live in an "image first" society...and Dion comes across as bland, bland, bland. It's sizzle over steak in this one. And that's what Harper is counting on. The Conservatives have been running anti-Dion ads (carbon tax) for months in Toronto. And are they ever hokey. I think enough Canadians will be ticked at another election call to prevent Harper from forming a majority....making the exercise a complete waste of money, effort, and time. Lowest Liberal popular vote since 1867? Wow. No need to conduct a Liberal leadership poll now. Dion's obviously an intelligent man....but he doesn't register on the national scale at all. Rick Mercer had a good comment last night, after it was all said and done. Paraphrased..... "Harper didn't get what he wanted. Dion certainly didn't get what he wanted. Neither did Layton....and May lost in her riding. We spent $300 million dollars and the only one with job security is Gilles Duceppe...and he's a separatist!"

Lots of radio talk from political pundits that Dion developed quite an ego since he became leader. An "Al Gore wanna-be", they say. "A very stubborn man who just didn't "get" why he didn't connect with the voting public." "Some ugly head-butting to come in that Party." *Appropriate, seeing as their result was butt-ugly. And how about his altercation with the CTV crew upon his entrance last night.....obviously concerning the broadcast of the re-dos of his earlier CTV interview. Dion CTVAnother statement I heard on the radio today, "That's just like Dion...to blame others instead of looking at himself." Also, "the fact that Harper couldn't win a majority against this veritable bag of jello says a lot about how the country feels about his leadership, too. What a colossal waste of time. One of the most needless, boring elections in our history." Just throwin' it out there....

I wouldn't of joined the Conservatives if Dizzy didn't think that he is Gore and the far left socialist "saviour" all rolled into one. I lost count of how many hundreds of billions of dollars in promises he made. BTW, rumour from "insiders" is that a lot of his spending policies came from Bob Rae. Yup, the same Bobby Rae that almost single handedly bankrupted Ontario. If Rae get's the next leadership, bet on the Liberals losing even more seats in Ontario.

Ignatieff seems the logical choice until (gulp...like it or not) young Trudeau is ready. I heard somebody today say that Dalton McGuinty would be a good choice. I hope he promises to go for it....only because he'll break that promise too.

ABC all the way ..... 10 billions reasons why The "golden goose-egg" award for Harper in Newfoundland and Labrador. After saying "I can win a majority without Newfoundland", this was the easiest prediction of the night. Now, will Harper appoint a Senator to get NL representation in cabinet (like he did last time for Montreal)? Ohhh nooo ... but thats ok, because we will do fine without Harper as well. NL and Que ... we should separate and form an economic union.

Believe it or not, Rae has a lot of traction out west and is seen by some as the saviour -- and I'm talking by people in Alberta of all places! When I mentioned that he isn't thought of fondly in Ontario they hadn't heard why. Don't forget, HA, that Ontarians have amazingly short memories --- after all, they re-elected Mr. Mcguinty [who has already stated that he isn't interested in the federal leadership, if that means anything] -- a man who signed a "no new taxes" promise only to load up on us.

Harper will . . . but didn't Newfoundlanders complain that he did it to include Quebec? I wonder . . . That would be something to see. Honestly. Quebec wants part of Labrador back as their own, no? And Newfoundland wants to turn off the tap and reclaim the hydro? Interesting indeed.

Rae save us? From what? Himself? Nobody can possibly forget Rae Days. If anything, the Harper is going to buy 24/7 airtime to remind everybody on how dangerous far left this guy really is. As for McLiar, he is the ultimate do nothing politician. Rome is burning and he is concentrating on saving us from......weed killer.

(didn't Harper go against his Alberta base on this) That would be something to see. Honestly. Quebec wants part of Labrador back as their own, no? And Newfoundland wants to turn off the tap and reclaim the hydro? Interesting indeed. NL and Que are probably more alike than any other two provinces in Canada. (Language aside, even though there is a nice sized French population in NL) Quebec does not want part of Labrador back, they claim it is still theirs. On the government of Quebec website, they still have Labrador included as part of Quebec. No, Newfoundland and Labrador does not want to turn off the tap. Newfoundland and Labrador wants to renegotiate the contract. Even if there was a switch to turn off, NL could not turn it off. Why? Quebec is a 39% stakeholder in Churchill Falls. When the current contract expires in 2041 (the last 25 years will be at a cheaper price than the current price), Quebec will still own 39% of Churchill Falls. Newfoundland and Labrador will only be able to sell their 61% at market price finally.

McGuinty just wants to suck more at the federal teat . . . without doing much to encourage better productivity. He wants the government to "invest" [read give give give] while creating a climate for business to fail [tax tax tax]

I am not suggesting that we (Que and NL) form our own country ... just we form an economic union much like the EU. With Que and NL working together as separatist provinces, we would control a great deal of the energy .... and practically all the "green" energy. Imagine Que and NL agreeing to sell hydro to Ontario at 2 or 3 (heck even 10 times) the market rate. Where else they gonna get it? Then both turn around and sell it to the Northeastern US at a bargain rate - just for kicks....

Ontario is starting a new nuke plant and another one on the drawing boards. The other little problem.....there is a ton of cheap coal energy available from the northcentral states at a pretty good price. On the other hand, Ontario can tax to death the gas pipelines coming out there..... *wink*

Coal is quickly going the way of the dinosaur thanks to the ecologists. Nuclear energy is all well and good, but even that won't satisfy their energy needs.

They have much in common and much less of a history of confrontation. What about a television commercial with Carbonneau and Ryder? "Can you hear me know?" China and Taiwan, India & Pakistan?
