Is still a long ways away, but we will have 3 players to sign or they will be headed back into the '04 draft.
Tomas Linhart 45th overall, Michael Lambert 99th overall, and Andre Deveaux 182nd overall.
All 3 have a lot to work on. Linhart has his work cut out for him. I was talking with a Knights fan, and it seems Tomas may have trouble getting ice time based on the core already in place and last years results. (why did they trade for him I should have asked) But for such a high pick, a lot is expected, so it would be a surprise to see him reenter unless he bombs this season.
Lambert was the 3rd scorer on his team (Urquhart was 1st) but he seems to be unliked by many Rocket fans for his lazy backchecking and overall effort. Vigneault has to push him hard, as a breakout season by Lambert would mean a great deal to his teams success and it would get him a trip to Hamilton next year (being weak at LW bodes well for him though, plus we traded up to get him). He was benched for a game or two, but I don't know the entire story behind it, but I heard it was his lack of effort and attitude.
Deveaux is very big, and physical, plus he was one of the top scorers on his team (after being traded to Owen Sound), but he was very poor in his own end, isn't a good skater, and like lots of big players (close to 6'5) he has problems showing up every night. I would like to see what he can do with a few years in the AHL. He's got raw skills, and with O'dette gone, Blouin in his last year, Deveaux could bring added toughness and size to the team.
Also to be added, but not neccessary to say in terms of reentering, are Ryan Glenn (145th overall, '00) and Scott Selig (172nd overall, '00). Both will enter their senior year in the NCAA, so if not signed before the next season, they will have no team to play for. Glenn could add depth to the blueline in Hamilton, plus he has played some forward this past season, has improved his play a good bit, was one of the top players on his team this year, and was the assitant captain this past season. (I talked with some SLU season ticket holders)
Selig on the other hand needs a breakout season, IMO. With the depth at RW, and some really bad numbers, he has to do something to force management to sign him to play in Hamilton. He was a big scorer in prep school, but hasn't had much success at the NCAA level playing in Hockey East (a very good conference)
