Have the top 17 prospects according to McKeens from a poster on HFboards 1 Lehtonen 2 Pitkanen 3 Spezza 4 Fleury 5 Ruutu 6 Miller 7 Staal 8 Komo 9 Grigorienko 10 Eminger 11 Zherdev 12 Semin 13 Koivu 14 Tjutin 15 Horton 16 Hamhuis 17 Vanek Komisarek is now the 8th best prospect according to McKeens, nice to see. Perezhogin went from 39 to 43, and another 2 Habs are before Perezhogin. Supposedly 7 Habs are in the top 100, the future is getting brighter. www.hfboards.com/showthread.php?threadid=4809

I'll guess Higgins and Kasty are ahead of Perezhogin in the ranking.
the other 3 guys in the top 100 would be Hossa, Hainsey and Plekanec.
Thanks for the info.

If you look on that post at hfboards, those ranking mean pretty much nothing because they are year old rankings.

I can see a few I'd question, after just a glance. So many of those just drafted are in there, which suggests hope and faith are playiing a big role in the ratings. Fleury already that high? Let's wait just a little, huh?

Lehtonen and Pitkanen above Spezza ? Is it just me ? Franchise goalie and franchise Defenseman ahead of franchise centerman ... Sounds about right to me ...

Franchise goalie and franchise Defenseman ahead of franchise centerman ... Sounds about right to me ... You can't decide who's the better prospect by what position he plays.

And what tells you that Spezza is better than either of Pitkanen or Lehtonen ?
They are the top three ranked prospects in the world, which probably means that they are all franchise player quality.
On any hockey team, a goalie is the most improtant player, followed by a number one defenseman, and then followed by number one center.
For argument's sake, let's say that all three finished tied in a dead heat as the ultimate prospect. In order to determine the winner, the goalie will always get the nod over any other position. Same thing for defeneman getting the nod over a forward.
My original point stands.

You should have said you felt like those three prospects were about equal and thus you gave the nod to the goalie, dman and forward. It makes more sense now. Spezza is almost a sure shot to produce well at the NHL level. He has already put good numbers for a young rookie with the sens. He played in the playoffs and IMO is a lot more proven than either Pitkanen or Lehtonen. That's why I felt like ranking him above both Pitkanen and Lehtonen. Pitkanen and Lehtonen are good bets to be stars but I'd want to see them play in the NHL before giving them the nod over someone that already did.

Those are reasonable doubts but the opposite arguments can also be made. Maybe Spezza would have already posted great numbers with a team like the thrashers. But because he plays for a contending team, he has to be good defensively and mind his defense more.
