I'm getting a fancy camera and the wifey is getting a tv for the bedroom, a high end chair......and more importantly, me, butt naked and wrapped up in a bow tie. (bet that image will make some heads spin! LOL!)
So, what are you guys giving and receiving?

I'm getting myself a trip to Vermont to go skiing, while the rest of my family is going to either Cuba or San Andres, Columbia. I'm not much of a Christmas person. I like to escape the insanity that is Christmas Day in my family.

For her fiftieth birthday my wife spent a week in London ( yes, England) in Novemebr so that also qualifies as a Christmas present. At least that is what she told me today. I have no idea what I'm getting & haven't thought much about it yet.

How do you guys know already? . LOL! Because she's not spending that much money on a camera without my input and I'm not buying a chair ot tv she doesn't like. When we were young, presents would be nothing more then 20-50 dollar affair so there ware real suprises. I once bought her a cactus (she overwatered it to death) and she had a drawing made for my den that mocked my heiritage. Ahh...to be young and foolish....

Funny how practicality seeps into a relationship over the years. At least you are still buying each other presents.

A goat and a cow. Really! We have been trying to simplify this past year [honestly: failing pretty miserably], but figure this is one thing we can do. Our young 'uns are not so young any more so we are scaling back on spending on them [heck, my son makes more than I do and buys what he wants when he wants]. Our denomination has a number of compassionate works throughout the world, and we are going to support AIDS orphans in Africa through a donation of money for livestock [administrative fees: $0]. As for receiving . . . who knows . . . but I'm always open to someone sending me ca$h!

I don't know what the heck I'll be receiving this year. If I can get the whole family up here from Ottawa to Whitby I think that would be great.
Is it me or are we men doomed even before we guy the girls something? Whatever I get Mrs Dis, I always make sure it's something specifically for her. You know, stuff that Dis Jr and I can't use either.
Having said that, anything to do with aesthetics usually works and there's such a place not too far from where we live. They're not too expensive. In fact they're pretty reasonable when compared to some of the spas out there, and they do a great job with their clients.
As for Dis Jr, we're going to pick him up a pretty decent learning incentive.
Cheers.

It will be a bit of a weird Christmas season this year. We are not putting up any decorations this year, as we are flying out to Brazil (my families gift to each other) on the 26th, to spend in Brazil with my wife's family who live there. We don't want to do the take-down-thingy on the 26th, or 3 weeks later in mid-January. My two girls got their kicks doing it at the grandparent's this weekend, anyhow.
Practically, no TV (habs), internet (habs), e-mail, cellphone for 3 weeks, as we won't be doing much travelling this time, and just chillaxing (as my 10 year old would say), at the farm in rural Sao Paolo state. We can't wait. 35 degrees (its the beginning of summer there now), fresh tropical fruit and coffee from self grown and roasted coffee beans every morning, and some freshly slaughter farm animals for Churrasco (sorry vegans!).
Otherwise, low key gifts this year. Somehow though it is only low key for me as my wife convinced me that the carpet in the living room and dining room needed to be ripped out and replaced with hardwood only a few months back. I always fall for it!!!

You know something, Yossarian? I think all of us could use a little of this every once in a while. I just finished drywalling my garage not too long ago. Always good to do as much as you can, yourself. Cheers.
