'Tis the season. What are your top three . . . or five . . . or whatever movies/shows of the season?
1. Muppet Christmas [still a kid at heart, I guess] 2. A Christmas Story 3. Christmas Vacation 4. Charlie Brown Christmas 5. Ernest Saves Christmas [see comment for #1]
I've never seen ______'s favourite : Santa and His Ho Ho Hos
[reminds me the story of a young urban kid who with his class was taken out of the city to a farm for the first time in his life. Fascinated, he kept pointing to things and asking "what's that?" A tractor, a bailer, a rake, a hoe . . . to which he replied "My sister's a ho and she don't look nothin' like that!"]

My favourite has been and will likely always will be "How the Grinch stole Christmas" with Boris Karloff. I've been watching it every year since I was a kid and still never get tired of it.
I recently had the pleasure of seeing the 1947 version of "Miracle on 34th Street".
The 1951 version of "A Christmas Carol" with Alistair Sim is also a favourite

I very rarely watch Christmas movies all the way through....I like certain scenes, and as soon as they're over I get fidgety until my next favourite scene comes on. Must be my ADD. "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation" is a pefect example of that kind of movie for me. One of the only Yuletide movies I can sit through entirely is Frank Capra's "It's a Wonderful Life". It's not a Christmas-themed movie at all (at the end, it's Christmas, sorry if I ruined it for you )...but it's become a Christmas movie over the years. James Stewart's performance is outstanding.

I recently had the pleasure of seeing the 1947 version of "Miracle on 34th Street". Much better than the 1994 version [has it been that long?]. I "get" to watch [or at least try to avoid, but a "family movie" is kinda compulsory viewing for the first 15 minutes] Mom for Christmas with Olivia Newton John , While You Were Sleeping , and assorted other tripe. I want to shoot my eye out!!! [oh: I haven't seen Elf yet, though my kids say that I should, and I haven't seen Bad[der] Santa yet, and my kids say that I shouldn't!]

I had the pleasure of seeing Polar Express on the Christmas Eve I spent in Thailand, which I found to be a pretty nice story. I'm not much of a Christmas person, but it was a touching story that closely followed the book, which is a favourite of my mother -- a former librarian no less.

Denis Leary in "The Ref" is laugh-out-loud funny. If you haven't seen it, take some time this Christmas to do so.

The 1951 version of "A Christmas Carol" with Alistair Sim is also a favourite I like this one as well, the other versions can't touch it IMO. I also like Christmas Vacation and Home Alone. I have seen them several times & they still make me laugh.

I have to echo duster (and others), my favorite is Boris Karloff's "How the Grinch Stole Christmas". I watched it with my grandfather every year when I was younger, and have great memories associated with it as a result. I have a CD of the original audio recording (a gift from 2 years ago), and in some ways I prefer listening to that rather than watching the animated film. Muppet Christmas and A Charlie Brown Christmas are 2 of my other favorites. I was a big Muppet and Charlie Brown fan as a kid, and still am I guess.

Always was and always will be "It's a Wonderful Life". After "Harvey" this was Jimmy Stewart's best movie.

Always was and always will be "It's a Wonderful Life". After "Harvey" this was Jimmy Stewart's best movie. Haven't seen that one in a long time, CV. Funny I'd remember this now, but there are two movies we used to watch as a family around Christmas time that were associated more with Easter: Ben Hur and The Ten Commandments. We used to watch them around this time of year. Someone already mentioned "A Miracle on 34th Street." Excellent movie. I think the original had a very young Natalie Wood in it. I honestly don't have the time to verify that. Just too busy. Got time to check the boards though. Cheers.

Thanks CO. Well, the office sure cleared out in a hurry. Only a few of us left for now.
Here's an episode of Night Court that I've never forgotten. To set the plot, the Santa in Harry's office is a wino who was picked up off the street and sent into court. Harry also has a pair of young people (one is Michael J Foxx) who showed up in his courtroom and he's unsure as to what to do with them.
He knows the one boy has had a troubled life and has problems bringing him around. Out of options, he takes an offer of assistance from the Santa. He gives him the file on the boy to brief him beforehand. However, it doesn't show this in the clip, but the folder Santa looks over is actually someone else's. Surprisingly, Santa still knows everything about the youngster anyway.
Edit: Earlier in the episode Santa tries to pass 'the spirit of Christmas' onto Harry. And reminds him of that at the end. One of the best episodes of "Night Court" I've ever seen.

I remember that episode, Dis. "Night Court"'s first season. Thanks for posting it.
I also remember thinking back then....What was Fox doing on "Night Court"? He had finished his second season of "Family Ties". I thought it was weird that his contract would allow a guest-spot on another sit-com.
