Burnett, 5-year, $82.5 million. Sabathia, 7-year, $161 million. now Teixeira, 8-year $180 million.
The 4 highest-aid players in the game, with ARod and Jeter.
And there are rumours the Yankees are after Manny Ramirez.
How can the Blue Jays EVER compete with that?

It's part of the reason why baseball is losing ground on many other sports -- hockey included. All most fans can hope for is that their middle-of-the-road team can get lucky and win it all, or their basement team can draft really well for years on end and then win it all before the Yankees, Red Sox, Cubs, White Sox, Angels and Dodgers buy up all their players.

The thing is, the Yankees payroll as it sits now is set to be only $1 million higher than it was last year. All those bad contracts coming off the books, more revenue from a new stadium, no salary cap. Must be a good time to be a Yankee, provided you can afford to go to the New Yankee Stadium.
As for the Jays, they can't even compete with the Red Sox and Devil Rays right now, and may finish behind the Orioles depending on how things go. $20 million off the books as compared to last year but, with the fall in the Canadian dollar, they will be spending about the same as last year.
