According to François I got the tape Gagnon, Laraque fully expects to be traded before the deadline.
Internet rumors has it that Begin has been told that he'll be moved or even waived...
...apparently HABS are seeking some cap space to complete a move.

Neither has been an impact player this season. This isn't a shock, though moving Laraque's contract might prove more difficult than shipping Begin anywhere.

Love that nick name you have given gagnon - LOL. I read that bit about Laraque but a little surprised to hear about Begin. he served the team well for a guy that was a waiver pickup himself.

Getting rid of Laraque and Begin frees up 2.5 million in annual cap space. Add that to the 3.5 million in annual cap space we have available (700k), we could get a player with an annual cap hit of 6 million

I think Begin deserves respect and I hope Bob finds a good place for him to continue his career. He has performed yeoman service with the Habs.
Granted, BGL has sucked this year. He does scare the living daylights out of Lucic though and I'd hate to see the latter in the playoffs repeat his shameful performance from earlier this season when he was openly taunting the Habs bench with impunity.

I think a bit part of Laraque's struggles this year can be attributed to his groin. While he's still slower than Cecil Fielder rounding the bases, he's skated better since returning from injury. I think what compounds things is that we are generally a fast team. It makes him seem even slower out there.
There's talk of the Sharks having interest in Chris Neil. Perhaps they'd want the reigning champ. That said, as duster points out, I'd hate to be without that presence should we face Boston in the playoffs.
Begin is a sentimental favorite. No doubt. He's becoming less and less effective though. If we can find a taker for him I have no problem with that. He's a free agent after this season, so a late pick seems like it would be sufficient. Stewart is showing he can do the job.

i'd be happy with georges being traded anywhere, if this is what he calls protecting his teammates good riddance, i'd rather have thornton, fritz, heck even a middleweight with a mean streak than this gentle giant who sends out personal evites whenever he feels the need to do his j o b.

As I mentioned in another thread, don't blame Laraques because no one wants to fight him. Other 'heavyweight's' in the league are going through the same thing. Andre Roy of Calgary has expressed the same comments. He's challenged a bunch of people, but unless they're a 'heavyweight', they're not taking the bait.

That's a good point Marvin, and I agree, we can't expect Laraque to fight much since no one wants to fight him. That being said... he has only been effective once this season, against Boston, when Carbonneau had him shadowing Lucic until Carbo got away from that matchup and Lucic started playing well. Laraque hasn't been able to protect the puck down low like I saw him do in the few Penguins games I saw last season, he's not playing a particularly tough game, he can't get anyone to fight him, he's not a deterrent when he's on the ice (see: Ruutu elbowing Lapierre in a game against Ottawa while Laraque was on the ice, Boullion stepped in and fought Ruutu). If nobody wants to fight Laraque, it's time for him to be useful and start stirring up some stuff. Start some scrums and do some facewashing or shoving, take a few liberties with the opposition's stars if you're on the ice against them and think you might get away with it, bump into the goalie, start actually being dominant at protecting the puck again. Make yourself useful. He needs to adapt and change his game. Carbonneau's been rightly criticized on these boards for not communicating with his players very well, and you can say the same about Laraque in this situation. If he's not happy with his role, he should be going to the coach's office to discuss what the coach wants from him, what he needs to change, and what he can expect from the coach. Don't go talking to the media, take some initiative, and go find out what you need to do to help the team.

If you want Laraque to 'face wash' or 'start some scrums', be prepared that he'll be the only one getting a penalty. His reputation preceeds him, so it's likely that any disturbance that he initiates will result in the Habs being short-handed.

Good luck moving Georges contract maybe on re-entry where the Habs will have to pay half. Plus GL has a no move so that could restrict things further....as for Begin would he add anything to a contender? ..I'm not so sure so waivers looks like the only option. IMO these moves won't garner you that much in movement to make a significant impact Bobs got to give something up and make a major move. HFTO

Welcome back H&C. I figured criticizing Lucic would get your blood up. I've watched Lucic a few times at Giants games and have been a fan. I thought he thoroughly deserved his Memorial Cup MVP. His antics after a fight with Komisarek in an earlier game this year left me less than impressed so we'll have to disagree whether what he did was taunting or not. His behaviour is an subsequent game makes me think he feels nowhere near as brave when BGL is there. My point is someone like BGL can be useful against teams like Boston or Philly. He may be slow, but if properly used, he can cause havoc. Just for that, I'd keep him for the coming playoffs. Right now, his trade value is about nil and his salary almost fully paid so there's nothing to lose.

Laraque can't play hockey in this league anymore. It's just to fast for him now. IMO he is a wasted roster spot. Replace him with someone who can actually keep up with the pace of the game.
I don't know if Gainey consulted with his pro scouting staff on this signing, but if he did, then the scouts should take some of the blame. Although, Gainey did give him the contract.

Another good point Marvin, I'd probably hypocritically be angry for him when he did something like that. Going to have to disagree with you on the first part H&C, at least when Laraque was on the ice against Lucic in that game, Milan wasn't hitting much and wasn't on the puck much. Carbonneau got away from that (probably because Laraque is slow, or was still injured) and Milan picked up his game, and scored his goal when O'Byrne, Lang, Kovalev, A. Kostitsyn, and Boullion were on the ice. Laraque wasn't effective for the whole game, not even half of it, but in the first period Lucic wasn't as big of a factor as he always is against the Habs. That completely went away in the 2nd though. As for Carbonneau, somebody needs to wake the guy up with regard to his communication and linemaking, it's so obvious to every single one of us here, how can he, the rest of the coaching staff, or Gainey not see it? Heck, you don't even hear much about it in the media, and the linemaking isn't exactly behind-closed-doors stuff

I agree that Laraques has been ineffective for the most part, and that Stewart can play an aggressive game, however, until Stewart proves himself as a force, the opposition is more likely to watch their step when Laraques is in the lineup than when Stewart is there.

Stewart hasn't fought any NHL heavies, but of the fights he has been in, in the show, he acquitted himself very well, IMO.
Not sure he'd 'frighten' anyone, but he'll take on anyone and at least launch himself when one of our guys is attacked. I think BGL texts them.

Bet Laraques plays against Philly. If he doesn't, then he might as well waive his NTC and agree to be traded or whatever. The reason Bob went out and got him was in direct response to how the Flyers pushed us around during the playoffs. But Laraque has to shoulder some of the blame too. He should be a much more effective player in terms of being an "energizer". He doesn't have to fight if there are no takers....but he can still be an agitating "Chris Neil" type. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Laraque said something in his blog that really bothered me this year. "I signed a 3-year guaranteed contract. If it doesn't work out here, it'll work out somewhere else." And that's when he was out with the groin injury. Not a smart thing to say, IMO.
