Bet Laraques plays against Philly. If he doesn't, then he might as well waive his NTC and agree to be traded or whatever. The reason Bob went out and got him was in direct response to how the Flyers pushed us around during the playoffs. But Laraque has to shoulder some of the blame too. He should be a much more effective player in terms of being an "energizer". He doesn't have to fight if there are no takers....but he can still be an agitating "Chris Neil" type. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Laraque said something in his blog that really bothered me this year. "I signed a 3-year guaranteed contract. If it doesn't work out here, it'll work out somewhere else." And that's when he was out with the groin injury. Not a smart thing to say, IMO. According to LaPresse he will play in Philly.... So...you whine, you play Begin must be sooooooooo pissed off..... unless, he's getting a chance to show off so we can trade him.....

Going to have to disagree with you on the first part H&C, at least when Laraque was on the ice against Lucic in that game, Milan wasn't hitting much and wasn't on the puck much. Carbonneau got away from that (probably because Laraque is slow, or was still injured) and Milan picked up his game, and scored his goal when O'Byrne, Lang, Kovalev, A. Kostitsyn, and Boullion were on the ice. Laraque wasn't effective for the whole game, not even half of it, but in the first period Lucic wasn't as big of a factor as he always is against the Habs. That completely went away in the 2nd though. absolutely agree with this. Lucic not only ran away from BGL all game long, he was way less of a pest than in games where BGL wasn't there. When I'll see Lucic respond and take on the true heavyweights of this league than I'll agree he fears no one, but for now he clearly picks his fights. Laracque came into camp, not in the best of shape and that clearly was the reason for both his injuries (back and groin). My guess is that it did not sit too well with Carbo who clearly isn't a big fan of enforcers to begin with. Laraque was Gainey's choice not Carbo's.

Plus Laraque had opportunities to stick up for teammates & chose not to. To me the glaring example is Ruutu's elbow on Lapierre. Laraque was dressed that night and on the ice when it happened. He let Bouillion handle it. I know Ruutu doesn't fit into GL's weight class & his unwritten "code" but to me that said it all. One of his linemates was the subject of an attempt to injure & he did nothing. He may complain about Carbonneau but he sold a bill of goods to Gainey.

Laraque is clearly making a move toward Ruuttu, but Bouillon, being closer to the player, got there first.

What disappoints me most about this is the timing. The team is going through a rough stretch image wise and he chooses now to publicly complain. really bad judgement IMO.

So according to Brunet Georges actually has a full NMC for this season. How Laraque thinks he'll be traded without him asking for one is beyond me.
From NHLscap.com: Georges Laraque, MTL - NTC [full NMC for 2008-09; after July 1, 2009 Laraque names six (6) teams in both the Eastern Conference and Western Conference that he will accept a trade to]

I wouldn't say Lucic was running away all game long Doc, either Julien was able to get him away from Laraque, or Carbonneau stopped putting Laraque out there when Lucic was on the ice. Once that happened, Lucic was pretty much back to his old self. Maybe he didn't hit as much or as hard as he usually does (I don't think that, but I honestly don't remember), but he did get on the scoresheet, as H&C mentioned, and he wasn't as invisible as he had been earlier in the game.
