From what I've read about Whitney this year he hasn't been good and Kunitz it the top 6 forward they were looking for to play with Whiner...er I mean Crosby and Tangradi is a solid prospect also (don't really know to much about him).
Should turn out to be a good trade for both, I think.

I think the Ducks get the better of the trade, Ryan Whitney is going to be a fine defenseman in a few years. Kunitz is a good two/three winger who plays with jam (probably something the Pens were looking for) but I don't think he's the winger for Malkin/Crosby they're looking for. Tangradi is a former second rounder who is having an okay season in the OHL, but is certainly not lighting it up for a 20 year old.
Anahiem looks like they'll be sellers though. Quick Bob - Higgins, O'Byrne and some picks for Pronger. Please!

I truly thought they would have been able to get more for Whitney, but Kunitz is no slouch. He plays pretty big and should be able to fill a Malone-type role on Pittsburgh. 16 goals, 35 points, 55 PIMs so far this season in 62 games.
Tangradi's a good prospect. IMO it sure beats getting a 2nd round pick, because he's a known commodity.
All in all, probably a good deal for both sides. However, Anaheim's definitely moving one or both of Pronger and Niedermayer. Anaheim was told to cut salary, and Whitney makes $5M or so for the next 3 or 4 seasons. I'd bet that both are available and Pronger will be traded for sure.

I like the deal on the Pens side,Whitney wasn't helping this year and Gonchar is back. I soon as I saw the deal I thought for sure that Pronger will be in play now. What he'd cost I don't know not sure he'd come here but I'd try he's what we need or a big part anyways. I have a gut feeling he may go to Toronto with Burke possibly in a Kaberle deal. HFTO

This move certainly will increase the rumours about Pronger.

I must say I can't understand the logic of trading a young, offensively-gifted dman like Whitney, and keeping Gonchar. Obviously the Ducks insisted on Whitney if they were going to give up Kunitz and Tangradi, who is lighting it up right now in the juniors.

I stand corrected. I only checked the latest numbers on the TSN website, where I realize now they only have last seasons numbers (60 odd points). Makes it a bit better for the Pens, but I still think they're going to regret moving Whitney in the long run.

Ouch. Last year, Whitney would have fetched double that. Has he really fallen that far? C'mon Bob, make a pitch for Crosby. The Pens seem to play better without him and they'd still have Malkin and Staal as centers.
Komi, Higgins, and Dandenault, plus a prospect for the oft injured, whining Crosby (you have to present the deal just so).
Funny, when I heard that Whitney was being offered around and that Malkin plays so well when Crosby's not there....I thought.... why not? Make an offer for him? You never know.
