Has anyone else noticed that there has been minimal trade chatter out there from both credible (TSN) and less credible (Eklund) sources concerning the Habs? It's been frustrating for someone like me who likes to soak in all of the speculation (even if it's 98% BS). Does anyone see this "cone of silence" as a sign that Gainey is in lock down mode and working hard - or that there really isn't anything going on and ANOTHER deadline will pass at status quo? Living in Southern Leafftario, perhaps I'm not hearing the chatter that's going on in Montreal - but it all seems quiet to me. Perhaps a little "too" quite.

I really think Gainey is done. Wilson was right, only the media makes the trade deadline a topic of discussion. I prefer it slide by unnoticed myself. They hype it like it's the only day of the season you CAN make a trade. One thing is for sure, this will be a very different team next year.

Well I expect Gainey will be working the phones to find a home for Dandenault and possibly add a forward like Laperriere, but I also expect him to be out of the running for the prize players. Adding to the complication is that he needs to make a hockey trade (players for players). It's an uphill battle from the Bell Centre, I suspect.

The only team perhaps that fits the player for player hockey trade is Phoenix.

This silence is a little unnerving. Is it a case of just Bob being Bob? Or is he really done? He did make a comment on HNIC last Saturday before puck drop that he didn't have anything brewing, but that his phone is always on. Naturally, Bob wasn't about to publicly show his hand, but could he have been telling the truth? Is he really done?

Doug McClean was on the Fan 590 this afternoon and he said (for what it's worth) that no GM wants to initiate leaks this close to the deadline.
It's generally regarded that BG keeps things extremely close to the vest - and would expect the same from his inner circle.
This begs the question - is this it? Are the Canadiens in lock down mode trying to swing something? Are they just waiting for the phone to ring and have someone make them an offer they can't refuse?
I'm worried that they may not do anything and wait to pick up UFA's before July 1.
As has been discussed to death - why would UFAs want to come to Montreal unless they felt some dedication to the jersey, the history or the city? Aside from that - any hockey player can make $2- $10 million playing in the US without the spotlight or circus of Montreal.
I know it's such a long shot - but does anyone think that BG is holding out for Vinny prior to July 1 - and is prepared to let the current roster ride out the rest of this season?
Just thinking out loud.

To the Vinny question: No.
I think he wants Hossa (again).

I can't see Gainey making any impact moves at this point. And it's times like the trading deadline that keep most of these media guys in jobs. I can't say for sure, but a lot of these rumours are probably generated by these same guys. Sometimes it works but mostly not. The last media-generated rumour I saw come to fruition was Brian Burke to Toronto. They kept the story alive until well after Burke said to himself, "that might not be a bad paycheque job after all." Cheers.

I don't see any cone of silence ....
This past week (wheter they are BS or not) the Habs have been linked in rumours to Jokinen, Morris, Antropov, Bouwmeester, Geurin, Roberts, Cole, ..... and I am sure there are a few I am missing that I'm too lazy to look up. The rumours almost sound as if someone is flinging the stinky stuff at a wall hoping something will stick ... which is the exact opposite of silence ...

It's not just Montreal, it's the whole league this year. Has to be the most boring trade deadline day that i recall in recent memory.
3 1/2 hours to go and 1 whole deal done so far...yep...boring.

Circumstances have made the deadline difficult this year. I've got TSN on in the background.

The Score actually has some really good coverage. Their team spotlights are very insightful. Nobody else is talking about cap space. The Score is putting up every team's cap situation on the screen.
