Leafs put leash on Bulldogs
David Turon scored 1:56 into overtime to give St. John's a 5-4 preseason victory over Hamilton in Corner Brook, Nfld., on Thursday night.
The Maple Leafs (1-0-0) trailed by two goals with just over three minutes left in regulation, but Jay Neal (16:41) and Don Parsons (18:40) scored late in the third period to tie the score, setting up Turon's heroics.
Turon, who turns 20 this weekend, is a native of the Czech Republic who was a fourth-round draft pick by Toronto in 2002.
J.F. Racine made 25 saves for the Leafs, including a stop of a Marc-Andre Thinel penalty shot in the first period. St. John's also got goals from Josh Holden and Rob Palahnuk.
Christian Larrivee, Andreas Holmqvist, Kenny Corupe and Alexandre Mathieu scored for the Bulldogs (1-2-0), while Olivier Michaud finished with 27 stops in net.
