Thomas has apparently re-signed with Boston for 3 years at $5.2M per season. tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=273633For interest's sake, that would make Thomas the 11th highest paid goaltender next season (using salary cap average), sandwiched between Nabokov (5.375M) and Fleury (5M) and identical to Brodeur's $5.2M cap hit.

I'm not sure I'd want to be hampered with that contract. He's had a great year, but given his age, and propensity for soft goals (historically), I just don't think I'd have offered it. They could make the move to Rask next year, who's ready, and platoon him with Fernandez or someone else. Of course, I won't be sympathizing if this contract forces them to let loose some other key people.

Perfect time to give a guy like Thomas a big contract, just before the playoffs. He seems to be the type of guy who will be better because of it.
I know he's a Bruin but at 34 and riding the bus for 10 years it's good for him to get recognition from his team for a monster year.

Somehow, when I look at Thomas, the name on his sweater should be AHL instead of "Thomas". Can't yet see him as a #1 goalie, and I think that's Boston's weakest link in the playoffs, unless Fernandez gets hot.
But that's just me. Out in left field as usual.
PS, thats gonna really hit their CAP.

Thomas turns 35 this month, right? Which means he'll turn 35 before the contract goes into effect (on July 1st), which, if what I have read isn't wrong, means he'll count against the cap unless he gets injured and is put on the long-term injury reserve?
Terrible contract.

That old eh? Kinda reminds me of other older athletes who suddenly get better as they get older....Bonds comes to mind.
