I think guys like O'Bryne and Gorges will benefit the most out of a structured system that Martin will provide. Our "system" didn't lack "structure" in '07/'08 (while it led the league in many categories) and remained for the '08/'09 season, naturally and for obvious good reason. What made it appear to be broken was poor execution (injured/exited talent). I can map-out a perfect "breakout" from our zone but if it's going to be led by the likes of Mike Komisarek 33% of the time, it's going to suck. Like it did. Good luck, Jacques...you're gonna need it. (along with a healthy Markov, Bouillon, a rejuvenated Hamrlik and Gorges).

I think our offense carried us right up to the playoff in 07/08 but when things tightened up for the playoffs and the offense wasn't there to mask our defensive mistakes we struggled. I remember the same issues of not being able to clear the zone or not being in a good position to clear a rebound haunting just like last season. When you see guys like Hamrlik and Markov struggle to clear or carry the puck out of trouble then you know you have trouble. The oppostion being allowed to stand in front of goalies uncontested or allowed to run right through the goalie has been an issue as well. I'm hopefull Martin can help with these problems with new ideals and a new mindset in general.

Well sure, but I'm fairly certain that the opposition wasn't allowed to stand in front of goalies uncontested under the Carbo/Gainey regime too. You can tell players what to do all day long, but if they don't execute because they CAN'T then any and all coaching-changes are futile. We need (better-skilled) d-men.

If we scan other fan forums we'll find sentimental pleas for retaining Bouillon and Brisebois. Pity.

Would be nice to have better skilled players on the ice. But Markov and Hamrlik both had their struggles last season in the D-zone they are pretty talented. My only thought was to blame the coaching staff. Didn't really want to highjack this thread with our coaching issues so sorry about that!!!
