I must lack the imagination to see how Heatley could end up in Montréal by any plausible route. Sorry, but I can't take this speculation seriously.

if it's true that Murray didn't get any offers for Heatly, it must be quite the wake-up call for Dany !!!
Melnyk and the Sens could really make his life miserable if they choose to ignore reason and pick vendetta....

Maybe.... but it's hard to imagine 29 GM putting the good of the game in front of their personnal greed.... And yet....... ....zero interest. I think they just don't want to pay the $4M bonus and they think Murray is bluffing when he said, "If I pay, he stays....." They will trade hime later this summer I think. The fans in Ottawa will never forgive him..........right ?

It's hard to imagine that nobody is interested in Heatley. He's been one of the most prolific scorers in the game since the lockout, only surpassed I believe by Ovechkin, Kovalchuk and maybe Iginla.
Either Murray's price is too high, Heatley's contract too long, or the $4M bonus really is the tipping point (which I don't believe) for other GMs to pitch offers. It's bad timing, anyway. It's a hard sell to trade for Heatley when in 1 day the likes of Hossa, Havlat, and Gaborik will be available for free.

It's Yashin all over again. Who wants another Yashin, talent notwithstanding? It's a risk for any GM.

Would a trade involving Andrei Kostitsyn plus a prospect/pick work? We would basically be swapping headaches but if Heatley was bummed about playing in Ottawa he'd be equally bummed about playing in Montreal.
For the Sens, a guy like Kostitsyn would at least give the "appearance" of a fair trade. AK46 has all the talent in the world and the ability to be a 40-goal guy but still needs to put it all together.
I really like Heatley the player but you really need to question his character with a stunt like this. If I felt that he would be a perennial 40-goal guy I'd take his contract but you would always feel like he's one step away from tanking on you.

The asking price was reportedly two first round picks and a player, or something to that effect. And that was PRIOR to the $4M salary payout due tomorrow.
It should be mentioned that the Senators technically have two weeks to pay that salary within the construct of the CBA and the SPC. It's only then that Heatley can file a grievance, and then the league can offer to step in and guarantee payment in the following 7 days. After that 7 days if payment is not guaranteed by the league, the contract can be dissolved.

Looks like Edmonton may be the destination. Apparently Murray wants Dustin Penner in the deal. If I'm the Oil I say, "where do I sign?" tsn.ca/columnists/?id=283335

If this trade goes through, Edmonton will have $50M tied up in 18 players with no goaltender. Gilbert might actually come available for some cheap talent. Halak, Sergei anyone?

That's not a bad deal for Ottawa. Losing Heater, yes, but also losing a player who doesn't want to be there. Gaining a specimen in Penner won't hurt. Cogliano and Smid have upside. Cheers.

It's done. Radio reports confirming it. TSN and Sportsnet confirmed too now.

TSN has reverted back to their "asked to waive" article and RDS is now reporting that Heatley has in fact refused to waive his NMC to go to Edmonton.
It's midnight right now, so if this deal wasn't done Ottawa now owes Heatley $4M.

He wants the security and dollars of a big long term contract, and also the freedom to choose his destination. We'll see you at Ottawa's training camp Danny. I hope you're looking forward to spending the prime years of your career being hated by your team, and fans.

Ottawa was willing to deal him, and I can understand them not wanting to deal him for chump change.... they put a deal together and he chooses to stay.... well, he'll have to live with the boos and the press being all over him. Time to grow up.

Maybe the good thing to come out of this is the "Heatley factor". If this doesn't nix GMs giving out NTC/NMC contracts nothing will. He's single-handley hamstrung Murray.

Selfish moron. His name is mud here in Edmonton today as you can well imagine, almost as bad as in Ottawa I would presume. Pretty impressive to burn two bridges at once. Classy guy.

Heard something interesting on the radio this morning. I guess the Senators went to the league to see if they had any grounds for taking the Heatley camp to court . The league gave it a go. The way I heard it this morning was, Heatley is now in violation of his contract and the Sens want their $4 million back. Like you said, Duster, Alexei Ya$hin all over again. Marshall Johnston was all set to take him to court and Ya$hin had no choice but to get back on the ice. Like you said earlier, CO, no takers for Heater's services. He didn't get along with the coach in Atlanta (heard that this morning too) and he's not getting along with the coach in Ottawa. Poor, RICH, muffin. Cheers.

Not yet -- so far he just wants out. Until he refuses to set foot on the ice in September he is still fulfilling his contractual needs.

Heatley got all three.

No quarter. He'll have to come to some agreement to get out or feel the wrath of the fans on opening night. Maybe they can have the Senator/Spartan guy flogg him at centre ice.

Interesting to see Alfie be that vocal. If I'm Murray, I tell Dany to stay home. Sure, it takes goals out of the lineup, but it will be a happier room.

This guy is one of the purest snipers in the entire league. It's hard to believe he hasn't found a new home with hopes of changing whatever poor attitude he possesses.
And I'm not excusing Heatley for his attitude. Personally, I think he should be counting his proverbial blessings every day that Dan Snyder had a forgiving family.
Then again, who knows? Maybe his reported poor attitude is a resultant behaviour of that incident. Never know how something like that could affect a person.
