Two Wild and crazy free agents are Gaborik and Pouliot. Gaborik is an expensive disgruntled talented forward with the potential to be great if he can be coached. An UFA with a long career ahead of him. Pouliot is cheap and underperforming RFA with size, speed and upside off the charts. He is young enough to be turned around and cheap enough (currently $850,000), fed up in Minny and Minny is fed up with him. We have our own underperforming players to deal with, but these two could benefit from a change of scenery. Just a thought?

Quite frankly, It's the first time I read that Pouliot is a problem in Minny, though I'll admit his devellopment can't be considered fast according to today's standards.. Many have said that he was the HABS first choice in the 2005 draft.
If he's available, I'd definitely take a chance on him.

Gaborik's injury history scares me. Plus didn't he turn down a pretty lucrative offer from the Wild? Not sure what kind of dollars & term it would take to get him.

Many have said that he was the HABS first choice in the 2005 draft. Bob Gainey said Poulliot was the team's first choice. He told a little gathering of Habs fans here in St. John's when he unvelied the travelling Rocket Richard exhibit. The question was why did you select a goalie with the #5 pick and not Kopitar. Gainey said that if Minnesota's selection was different, then they would not have picked Price, because Poulliot was #1 on their board. I sometimes question the Habs overall scouting department .... both the pro scouts and the amateur. No wonder we can't find that star player like most teams....

I'm pretty sure it would take not playing under Lemaire. As for Gaborik's injury history, I'm not that concerned. It's not one ongoing injury. His groin reportedly hasn't been a problem the last 2 seasons, and his hip injury has now been repaired. As for Pouliot, I doubt the Wild would trade him. As much as he's underperformed to date, they don't really have someone to stand in and replace him immediately.

Every GM takes their lumps. Even Ken Holland gets taken to the cleaners once in a while (Bertuzzi, anyone?)

.....will Gainey ever hit it out of the park? ?? be it a trade,a UFA or UFA's or a pick? ? HFTO Lang for Toronto's second rounder looked pretty darn good until he wore that goofy looking barberpole jersey and ended up leaving with a severed tendon. Lang seemed to really want to play in Montreal too boot and always projected himself in the media as an easy going guy.

Ribeiro/Niinimaa..... oh sorry, that was the other way around. In baseball that would be the equivalent of dropping a pop fly to shortstop.

Now would be the time to make an offer if the Habs think he can fulfill his potential as a top line forward. A new GM in Minny might have an easier time parting with him, having not been the one to draft him - and his stock can't exactly be soaring given his slow development thus far.
