tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=282921Story says B's offer RFA Kessel to Toronto for Kaberle and their #7 pick. I know Boston is going to be in tough to keep Kessel, but with Chara and Wideman there, do they really need a Kaberle?

I don't know ... stranger things have happened I guess, but I'd be surprised if a trade within the division went down ...
Boston would be continuing to build from the goal, out, they'd have an extremely strong blueline corps. However, do they have someone waiting in the wings to replace Kessel?
Toronto would be moving their best, and maybe their only, puck-moving defenceman. Burke would have to have another option up his sleeve to move a guy like that.
Interesting scoop anyway, BLNY. Thanks for posting it.
Cheers.

That would be an outstanding deal for Boston, in my opinion. A top 3 defenseman AND the 7th overall, for essentially the 5th overall pick from a couple of years ago? Sure, Kessel could be perrenial 40-50 goal scorer... but so could whoever they get at #7 too, and they load up their blueline. Nothing wrong with having a loaded blueline for a Cup run...
Mind you, it doesn't really do anything to help Boston's cap problem, but still...

However, after all Burke's talk of moving up in the draft, I can't see him dealing away #7. I wonder how the names got out - Brian Lawton again?

How does that solve a need for Boston?

I think Boston would then try to package the #7-#25-Kaberle to get in the Top 3.
How leaf nation would turn on Burke if the Leafs would have traded Kaberle + Tavares for Kessel!!!
I would be laughing for days!

Yikes, it's a plausible scenario and borderline diabolical. I wonder what our own resident Leaf fan would think of that. If I'm Colorado, I think about it for sure. Boston sweetens that offer fairly easily if need be.

Kessel is a 40 to 50 goal a year scorer, young and fast. Not many of those around. Kaberle is the next McCabe. Leads me to believe that talks in Boston have not been going well and Kessel has high expectations. In playing terms and career future, Kessel is worth much more than Kaberle.

Looks like the deal would have happened if not for mis-communication on who was including a pick.
