Islanders have signed free agent goaltender Martin Biron to a one-year, $1.4 million. Add that to the $2.5 million per for two years to the 40 year old Dwayne Roloson, I guess this kinda speaks HUGE volumes about the state of Rick DiPetro's health or am I reading too much into this? I just don't think either Roloson or Biron would sign, without guarantees they'd be playing significantly. www.nypost.com/seven/07222009/sports/islanders/islanders_add_another_goalie_180741.htm

Interesting indeed, considering the length of DiPietro's current salary. Perhaps they want him to actually take time to fully recuperate before getting back in the net and hurting himself again?

I don't think you're reading too much into at all JJ. DiOietro must be in worse shape tha most of thought, even after almost a season off. Seems like a pay cut for Biron as well.

We have a nominee for "most angry at his agent" over Alex Kovalev whose agent got him out of the city he loved. It's Martin Biron, who upon his agent's recommendation spurned an offer of $4M/year trying to extort money from the franchise that decided to go with Ray Emery and Brian Boucher over him.
All to earn $1.4M playing on the worst team in the NHL last season, and isn't looking like they'll improve a lot.

The pendulum might be starting to swing back int he other direction . . . but all it will take is one idiot GM . . .

This story has more than its share of twists and turns.
A team with a 15 year contract for a goalie has just gone out and acquired two other bona fide NHL goalies. You cannot just wrack that up to an ex-goalie as a GM. Something is not 100% with DiPietro's recovery for sure.
Secondly, the Flyers spend $100K more on Emery than the Isles end up paying for Biron. Emery is such a proven team player and will only help the Flyers finally get over the "goalie" speed bump that has been their bane of existence for a heck of a long time...or not!!
Finally, is the goalie that almost single-handedly stoned us only 15 months ago in the playoffs only worth that much these days? Has his stock really tumbled that far...or did he and his agent wait too long until there were no real options left for big money?

I still don't understand Philly's inability to answer the goaltender issues. Issues they had since Ron Hextall(first time around) I guess......

We made him much better than he is. It was proven in the next round.
