LOL nice. It's not truly accurate though because there aren't enough Habs rumours. It took me a good 20 clicks to see the one above.

Gomez to Canadiens? (e1)
Interesting Which goes to show that if you put enough rumour out there, even randomely generated, you're bound to hit one at some point.

And he's certainly ramping up the rumours daily involving the Habs. Of late his teasers has something imminent only to have the plug pulled at the twelfth hour .....reminds me of the Molson man who had Habs fans in a tizzy a few years back. With Gaineys post draft proclamations about searching deep into the summer or into the fall for that big centre this rumour mongering Will have legs for a good while.

HFTO Likely well into next summer methinks!! Of course a lot of the current rumours involve the Hammer because of his cap hit. The Hammer of two years ago with the improved overall defensive corps Gainey has assembled is not that bad a prospect to me. Actually, the Hammer under Martin, with improved defensive zone systems, with an improved D corps, and with less media speculation about his off-ice antics could be very promising this winter. He is still overpaid, but then so are most of the recent UFA signings!! The Hammer's overpayment is old news.

Eklund "twitted" that Halak to Chicago is a possibility.
Oh wait, isn't hockeybuzz.com the rumour generator?

Eklund "twitted" that Halak to Chicago is a possibility. Oh wait, isn't hockeybuzz.com the rumour generator? Yeah, if you say enough things enough times, something is bound to be right. The only thing that could possibly ring true is Bob is likely talking to other GMs just to test the waters. All GMs should be doing that, and doing it all year. Nothing comes of most of the text messages or phone calls (it must be real serious when they are actually willing to talk to each other, just like the good old days!!), but it is what GMs need to do. It's good for hockeybuzz to keep mentioning the Habs (and other popular teams)...it keeps their hit counts up!!

It's good for hockeybuzz to keep mentioning the Habs (and other popular teams)...it keeps their hit counts up!! IIRC there is a site out there with proof that hockey buzz is less accurate than pulling names out of a hat at random. The math behind it was really fuzzy - they said each player involved in a rumour has an equal chance of going to one of thirty teams (29 other teams plus the possibility of staying put). 1 in 30 gives you about 3.33....% chance of being accurate, while last season Eklund was hovering around 2.5% accuracy. Of course, you're not equally likely to be traded anywhere, so it fiddles with the numbers a bit, but it does go a long way to indicating Eklund's reliability (or rather the lack thereof). Found it in my history. The site is: hockeybuzzhogwash.com/

There are lots of heavy hitters who back up Eklund. Bob MacKenzie and Darren Dreger for two both say that Eklund has sources, and they hear a lot of the same things. I think what Eklund provides is an interesting service. It's a legitimate rumour mill with no filters, as opposed to what other reporters provie which are rumours that are only printed after a certain amount of "verification". Does that mean two GMs have spoken on the phone twice? Three times? Whatever it is, Bob Mackenzie probably isn't batting all that high himself.
As much as I find it annoying that people want to discuss every Eklund rumour, it's an interesting service as a guage of what may or may not be being discussed between GMs. Should Chicago be interested in Halak? Definitely. But will they be willing to pay the price that Montreal should want for him? Not likely.

It is definitely more of an entertainment service than one that offers a highly reliable set of scoops just before they break. As you mention, no filtering at all. Sure there may be a few very reliable source, but there are tons that don't meet that standard. He seems to post anything and everything, but that is the model he has designed and it is incredibly popular with those starved for "real' and verifiable information. Just look at the hordes of proposed trades that pop up all over the net, there is a huge demand for speculative information.

The one thing you have to give the guy credit for is he found a niche on the web. He is rarely or ever right and is usually late in reporting things that are done but at certain times of the year crazed fans are looking for any glimmer of hope. He actually maybe the Linus hearding fans to the pumpkin patch. If you take it for what it is it's atleast entertaining if not right down ridiculous but everyone needs an escape once in a while.

Why doesn't he just put his name & face to the rumors. Maybe he feels he can't report as freely if he is a known commodity.

Why doesn't he just put his name & face to the rumors. Maybe he feels he can't report as freely if he is a known commodity. His name is Dwayne Klessel, lives in Philadelphia and his name is now no more secret than Spector's is. "Eklund," which originally started during the lockout was in fact more than one person. Klessel and others used it as a way to get CBA information to the fans. Now it's just Klessel and it's airing the rumour mill. Eklund was a name with some credibility, makes more sense to use it than starting over. Why don't we all just use our real names instead of nicknames? Everyone here trades on the credibility their nickname has generated from their posts. We don't benefit financially from that, but certainly benefit within discussion and debates. If we didn't benefit from it, we wouldn't post. I think Eklund was using the anonymity of himself as 1) a way to remain relatively private, 2) a way to protect his sources for the time being and 3) to generate publicity (more below on that). I agree that the anonymity thing holds him back to some degree, but other writers don't have to generate their own publicity. They are employees of corporations who do all the work for them. They just put pen to paper and hand it off. Klessel used for a long time the anonymity of his identity as a way to conjure up publicity, from hiding in a dark room on Sportsnet, to holding up a paper mask on TV. The guy's an (arguably) self-made man, anonymity or not.

It is curious that for weeks our man Eklund has a different Hab rumour is he just playing on Gaineys own words? Or is there possibly some smoke?Surely there has to be more chatter involving teams that aren't up against the cap like the Habs are? You'd think if there is a deal Bob would want some more wiggle room ....so barring a blockbuster taking back a marquee player would be difficult depending if he is comfortable or not being right up against the cap. With Price and others he's going to need cash next year. True or not atleast we are taking Habs in the dead of summer. HFTO

It's Eklund. Why do I bother to reply? I dunno . . . slow day, avoiding visiting relatives, make up your own reason ;D
My question, as ever . . . why would Bob make such a trade? how does it help the Habs?
Just more sideways [at best] movement imo.
