hfboards.com/showthread.php?t=670697Speculation from folks at CKAC apparently. With Sanford already signed as the apparent #3 goalie, this will certainly add fuel to the fire that is Halak's future.

The guy hasn't played in the minors in almost 10 years. Why would he take a 2-way deal?

Aside from being 35 years old, and perhaps staring at retirement, I can't think of another reason.

How about this, BLNY? He hasn't been given a sniff of a contract all summer [though I guess that may play into "staring at retirement"].

That was sort of what I was getting at yeah. Could be a Marc Denis thing. It could be a situation where he and Sanford battle it out for who gets to be back up.
It's all moot if nothing comes of it.

It may not be this off season but I'm pretty certain Halak's camp is itching for him to start ....so Fernandez may have been propositioned with the offer of having a chance to compete for the backup job and accepting a two way is the only way to fit him in under the cap should moving Halak drag on.

Thanks for posting that NWT. I saw mention in another locked thread on hfboards that Manny appears to have denied the offer exists. CKAC must have been grasping ...
