Then U-20 tournament starts next month in Finland. I can't wait to see the WJC's, as it's always fun to watch the 18 and 19 year olds battle for the gold.
Here's a list of who we could be sending this year.
Finland Oskari Korpikari- Should be on the team for sure I would guess. Played in the U-20 tournament at Lake Placid over the summer, and has played well so far in the sm-liiga.
Russia Konstantin Korneev- Has already been named to the team, and should be a leader on defense. Is playing for the Senior National team now.
Canada Corey Locke- Could make the team, but I wouldn't pencil him in just yet. I thought he would have made the team last year, as he was racking up the points for the 67's, but hopefully he gets a shot this year.
Cory Urquhart- A long shot, IMO, but he could make the team as he's one of the top scorers in the Q, and Team Canada has a Q coach behind the bench.
Michael Lambert- A long shot for sure, but he's having a great year, and did play for the U-18 in '01 and was one of the top scorers on the team (well 4th or 5th in team scoring)
Slovakia Halak- Somewhat of a longshot, I can't confirm, but a friend of mine who speaks slovakian said she read that Halak was named to the U-20 tournament that is going now or shortly. After being named the top goalie in the U-18's last year, helping his team win a Silver, he has a shot to make the team.
Belarus Kastsitsyn- I assume he will play, even though his team in regulated to group B this year, which means he will play against much weaker teams.
Sweden no one
Czecks Tomas Linhart- Was on the U-20 four nations team, so he's got a good chance to make it.
USA no one
I could see us sending 5 guys, as I would be surprised if either Urquhart or Locke make it, unless several of the guys that are in the NHL don't

Kastitsyn better play. By reading the pre-draft reports on this guy, he was considered by many to be the best pure offensive talent in the draft, and could have gone in the Top 5 if there were no health concerns. It would be a major red flag and a huge disappointment if he's not even on the team.

It's not that he wouldn't make the team, he is a lock to be on the team, as he's played in two WJC's already, with 2 more to go. The problem is that his team plays in the Group B, which consists of Japan, Italy, France, and other weak teams. I assume he will play, and rack up the points, but it wont mean much as the opposing teams just aren't very good.

Its also possible - especially if he Katstysin is still in the Super League - that he will be asked to play, but just won't go. Or maybe Tikhonov won't let him go. Why play in a B tournament (even if it is for your country) if you can keep playing in arguably the 2nd best league in the world?

Kastytsin may be playing for his senior national team at the six nations tournament in Hungary. he is listed on the roster on the official site but I can't confirm if he played in his teams' first game. they've won 8-2 against Croatia, but i wasn't able to find a scoresheet or something to confirm. EDIT: I think this confirms it: www.ehockey.ru/news.php?id_news=17R.

This confirms what? I can't make anything out of this... Help? Kastsitsyn is on the roster for the tournament that's going on now or shortly. The RSL has stopped playing, so it's good that he's getting some extra hockey in, as I assume he's playing, and not just on the roster.

Add Tomas Linhart to the list. He played in the U-20 tournament over the weekend, he had 1 assist that I know of, hopefully he can make the WJC team next month.
