Sports Illustrated Top 30 AHL Prospects sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2003/hockey/nhl/10/25/ahl.prospects/2. Mike Komisarek, D, Hamilton (Canadiens) -- The seventh overall pick in the 2001 draft, Komisarek is not only one of the most defensively sound blueliners in the AHL, but also one of the most gifted offensive defenseman in Montreal's system. With an intimidating 6-4, 240-pound frame, the New York native had a solid first year with Hamilton last season, finishing with five goals, 25 assists, and a plus-27 rating in 56 games before being recalled to the Canadiens. A strong skater with good mobility, the former University of Michigan standout is also a capable passer and can carry the puck out of the zone. A logjam of veteran defensemen and the emergence of former US-Under 18 teammate Ron Hainsey are the only reasons why the hard-hitting Komisarek will not spend the entire season in Montreal. 1. Ryan Miller 2. Mike Komisarek 3. Ray Emery 4. Jeff Taffe 5. Fedor Tyutin 6. Maxime Ouellet 7. Scotty Upshall 8. Khari Lehtonen 9. Ryan Bayda 10. Fredrik Sjostrom ----------------------------------------- I dont know if they know anything about the Habs defense, but would anyone agree with Komisarek being the most gifted offensive defenseman in our system Markov and Hainsey easily beat him for that title at the moment. It's still an interesting list, nice to see a Habs prospect in the top 2.

Well, Markov isn't really in our ''system'' anymore. He's been part of the team for almost 2 years now.
even if Hainsey is still considered as part of it, Komo is one of the most gifted offensive d-man in the Habs system..since there isn't much after those two !

I guess it depends what you consider our "system". For me even if the player is on the Habs team hes part of our "system". I have never really thought of Komisarek as an offensive defenseman though. He has some offensive potential, but its not anywhere near the same level as Hainsey's IMO.
