Got my first Hole in One last night!! 180 yard par 3 uphill to a blind green, didn't actually get to see it go in the hole, but knew it was close. Used my 7 wood for the first time on that hole, usually I've been using a Hybrid 5, but have been pushing it right lately...I'm a lefty. Of all times to get it though....it was Men night!! Cost me plenty!!

Congrats Reap. The closest I've come has been 3 feet from the hole (and you don't want to miss those putts) and that doesn't happen very often.
What was the round like overall? Were you having an average round?
Cheers.
Edit: I'm a lefty too.

Con-grats! fer sure! I stand in awe.
The closest I've ever come is . . . well, I've never been close, except in mini-golf.

I was actually having a bad round, I went Triple, Triple, Double on the first 3 holes, slicing my small irons really bad...took a few holes to work it out. Shot a 51(par is 36) on the front and a 38(par is 35) on the Back lol. The hole in one was on the 8th hole. I've been close a couple of times, hit the flag twice, and rolled up about 6 inches one time.

Wow! That's amazing! I've never gotten the elusive hole-in. Now that I think about it I've never really been that close. My best hole to date was an eagle on a par 4 where I drove the green.
Congrats!

Fantastic! I think I've gotten 4 birdies in my entire golf "career". I did get 5 pars in one round (beat hubby, he got 3), but usually I go 3 or 4 games before getting a par... Congratulations

Congrats Reaper!! I've never gotten a hole in one, the closest I came was about 2 feet. Wednesday is my Men's League night. And coincidentally enough I shot my best round ever this week (84), but I triple bogied 2 par threes that I almost always par. If I had of parred those it would have been 78 .... but that's golf... I started this year with a RCGA handicap index in the high 20's , I've now gotten it down to 17.5. Slowly but surely I hope to get down lower ... anyone else know their handicap index on here?

I've been close a couple of times, hit the flag twice, and rolled up about 6 inches one time. Know the pattern well my friend. Been there many-a-time (with no holes-in-one) I actually hit the flag stick tonight on my 3rd shot of a par-5, hole #9 at Amherstview Golf Club here in Kingston. The sun was creating a huge squint factor. I chipped it over the water hazzard (my buddy walked into that about 2 years ago) in the general direction of the flag ... saw it bounce twice on the green ... roll up to the hole, deflect off the flag stick and land about six feet behind it ... no eagle ... two-putted for a par (was downhill coming back to the cup) ... piss me off ;D Val, I've never had more than two birdies in one round. The most pars I've had in one round was seven ... but you might as well have considered them bogies after I shot a 10 on a par-4 in the same round ... piss me off ;D ;D Congrats again, Reap! Oh, I'm drinking Brava these days. Delicious beer that's about six bucks cheaper than Moosehead Lager (when Moosehead is on sale no less). Cheers-la!

That's the thing, Skilly. If you don't let those two holes get to you, you've got a better chance of shooting what you did. I find it's too easy to just say to yourself, "well, there goes that round!!" Nice score buds. Cheers.

Congrats, awesome job!!
I came close on a similar hole this summer. An uphill par three with blind green, and came four inches short. Screw the gimme, I popped that one in fair and square. Even that birdie felt very underwhelming.

Congrats, Reaper! I've golfed twice in my life. The first time, about 20 years ago....the second time, the day before my son's wedding at the end of this past June. I took a couple of lessons first, just to get some basics on the mechanics.....but it didn't help much. Slicing off the tee almost every time with the driver and putting from anywhere were my biggest flaws. BUT.....on Hole 17...par 3, 150 yds., I selected a 6-iron and my two lessons jived perfectly....3 feet from the hole. They were going to give me a gimme (considering how I had played the rest of the round)....but I decided to see if I could birdie it. Nope. 3-putted for a bogey. That's golf, I guess. So many games within a game. But that one shot made it worthwhile, even though it was a fluke. Have I gone back since? No. While I have nothing but admiration for the skill it takes, playing golf has never been of any interest to me.

Congrats Reaper, I have one hole-in-one myself and it was the same scenerio, over a blind crest and did not get to see it go in.
Just curious, what course was it and what hole ?

The last time I had my handicap rated, it was either 28 or 32 (but I'm thinking 32...). That was 6-7 years ago, and I try not to play too often so I'm sure I'm back to the 32 by now Case in point, we played 5 rounds of golf last week, 2 nines and 3 eighteens (first one with a carry bag, was I ever tired). I believe there was one bogey in all those rounds. My worst hole was a 15 and I remember there was a 12 as well

My handicap was 18 a year and a half ago (start of last season). I did a quick calculation for this year (though I've only been out 3 times ) and it's down to 14.5 (using LastMinuteGolfer.com's tool), mostly due to playing one spectacular round which overshadowed the 2 average ones. A longer-term calculation would likely put me back closer to 18. Skilly, is golf expensive out on The Rock? The few courses I've looked up have had pretty reasonable rates (<$60). I'm trying to plan a golf trip with some friends next year, and we were considering heading out East to NB/PEI/NFLD for a week.

I'm trying to plan a golf trip with some friends next year, and we were considering heading out East to NB/PEI/NFLD for a week. Depends on where you want to play RS .... In St. John's the rates are roughly Admiral's Green Pippy Park = $45 Clovelly = $60 Glendenning = $55 Outside the city where the courses are better maintained you have: Terra Nova = $60-70 (depending on if cart is mandatory) Wilds = $45-60 (depending on time of year) Gander = $30-40 (one of the best values on the island) Those are the ones I'd recommend. Glendenning is way too easy (if you like a challenge). I've played almost all the 20 odd courses we have here ..... and specific course you'd like info on, give me a holler. Oh, and if you are coming this way, I may be able to get you a free round at Pippy Park .... I usually get a few passes a year. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ As an aside, I won the "B" Division in the Club Championship this past weekend (I'm play out of Admiral's Green). On Saturday the winds were howling up aroud the 70km/hr range with gusts that were higher. Everyone's scores were terrible (even the low handicappers). I ended round one in 8th (in B Division), 4 shots out of the lead (tightly packed field). In Round two, I shot the round of my life (best score I ever had in tournament golf, 3rd best ever), and won the Division on the second playoff hole. What I am most proud of though, was that my second round score was the second best score of the day in all divisions..... yeah yeah , they all call me "sand-bagger" now ... ;D

Geeze guys ... an 18 handicap and wining B championships? Well done!
Me, I get miffed the beer girl doesn't make it around.
Still, shot an 87 the other day and that was my best round ever. I play with some guys who get all flustered with a double or triple-boggy. It affects them to the point where it takes over their game.
That 87 round though felt pretty good. I borrowed an offset driver from my buddy on a "here, try this" kind of conversation. I've never hit a ball further or straighter so consistently. One drive of 270 yards, though 30 of those yards were downhill I'll admit. The PW and SW were working pretty good. The putter was ok I suppose. I went back through the scorecard and looked at some of those dreaded 3-putts. Had one hole, though, par-3, number 11 that wound up 18" from the hole.
I've decided that if I'm in the same contract next year I'll be taking lessons. But, I'll still be miffed if the beer girl doesn't come around.
Cheers.
