Clones lose their season opener last night on the road in Elmira (not the Ontario one).
5-2, with the only Hab prospect Robert Mayer in net for the loss, stopping 25 of 30 shots faced.

Not sure if this is mentioned anywhere. I read that Michael Busto didn't make the Cyclones roster and has been loaned to an IHL team. Why did Gainey get him again? I would have preferred a pick.

His most redeeming quality is that he frees up one contract next July 1st. I have no idea why they took him. He is already living up to his name.

It seems Busto can't even make the roster of an IHL team. He was waived by Dayton yesterday.

Awesome. Mayer is ranked 29th of 30 goalies who have played 1+ games, with a sv% of .833.
It's only one game, but his teammate posted a shutout in his game.

Clones have a chance to win the Kelly Cup tonight, as they are up 3-1 in the series after a big win last night.
The Habs only have two prosects with the team right now, less than from the last Kelly Cup run where Desharnais and Desjardins were part of a strong core of prospects. Both current Hab prospects are doing just fine. Robert Mayer, in his first year as a pro, is now 5-1 in the playoffs with a 1.61 gaa and .936 save %. He has been the starter in every game in the finals. He might be finally shedding that inconsistency tag that has followed him around a bit. He is still young, so good to see him able to crank his game up a notch or two.
Maxime Lacroix, who is on an AHL contract with the Dogs, has been chipping in offensively since the Dogs sent him down again. He now has 12 points in 18 games.
The NHL, AHL and ECHL franchises are all still playing - although here's hoping one stops playing after tonight!!

Hand over the hardware and rings. Mayer makes 23 stops and gets the 2-1 win in game 5. Lacroix held scoreless, but he and Mayer likely now get to hang out with the Dogs and build on their new championship title. Second one since the Habs/Dogs affiliated with Coach Weber and the Clones. That is darn impressive. What a year for the Habs and its two franchises. Hope it does not stop here.
Edit: Mayer gets co-winner of the playoff MVP. The losing goalie shares the title.

Impressive. The first three series had gone the full distance, but they did preserve their best for the finals. Chapeau
