RDS has learned that the Canadiens have begun discussions with the agent for Quebec defenseman and free agent Marc-Andre Bergeron.

Saw this recently in another publication. The way it was worded there was that his agent contacted Julien Brisebois & was told that the Habs are exploring options right now. It sounded like a polite brush off to me.
Also, looks like he had back surgery about 6 months ago:

I really don't think MAB is any more the answer than one of our kids from Hamilton.

What is a little surprising is that the Habs are two time zones away from home with just 6 defensemen and tomorrow they will be three time zones away. The Dogs don't play again until the weekend, so I am a little surprised they have not filled that seventh defender spot one way or another (call up, trade, UFA).

I am quite sure Gainey has a plan and likely isn't sharing it outside the organization's walls.
