No real shock to me. The guy's been dominating -- for a defenseman -- at that level. Hopefuly we can work him in as a 3rd pairing, 2nd PP unit defensman next season.

another entirely stats based evaluation imo. the buzz is the same thing that i saw in person a couple months ago. i'll go watch him again when the bulldogs come back to abbotsford, but his hockey iq in his own end made MAbreez look like a genius.
i really hope he's somehow figured things out, but i have serious doubts at this point. if he was dominating in his own end like he is in the offensive zone he woulda/shoulda had a callup by this point.
prove me wrong PK, i'd love to see you discover what it is to play smart hockey in all 3 zones.

Another day, another opinion: Dogs lose 3-2 to Lake Erie at home today. Wyman and Maxwell with the goals, Desjardins in net for the loss. Dogs outshot the Monsters 33-16 but were stoned by a solid goaltending at the other end of the ice. Sanford was injured in the first period of the New Year's eve game. He has a shoulder injury as is expected to be out for a couple of weeks. The Dogs have called up Robert Mayer from Cincy to backup Desjardins while Sanford is out. Swedish forward Johansson is also expected to miss this weekend's game too, as he is injured again (it has been a real problem for him this year, in his first year in NA). Went down to Steeltown to see the game. The Dogs never really seemed to be in the game, despite the SOG advantage. They only had one or two really good chances before they finally scored with a couple of minutes left. Lake Erie did a good job of keeping the front of their net clear and most of the Dogs' chances came from the perimeter. That said, I was really impressed with Subban. He is very strong on his skates and has great puck control. He looked solid defensively (I recall one play where he grabbed the puck in front of his own net and instead of panicking he kept control of the puck and moved it a bit before clearing it out of harm's way). He made an outstanding end-to-end rush (starting behind his own net) to set up the Dogs' first goal. The word that comes to mind to describe his skating style is "gangly" - at first glance he looks like he's labouring to stay on his feet but don't let that fool you. He's very strong and well-balanced. This kid is going to be alright!

We often make irrational likes and dislikes of players and then work on substantiating our initial prejudices. I liked Ribeiro, Locke and Latendresse. Never warmed up to Chipchura, Breezeby and Audette. I still like Ribs and Locke, little guys who worked hard to accomplish good things. I was very disappointed in lats, a superprospect in his first two training camps, but a weak skater who didn't live up to his physical gifts and assets. He wasn't giving the Hab's his best and that is unacceptable. He needed an injection or Begin heart. I really like Subban; outgoing personality, good family, tons of assets and spectacular skating skills and stickhandling. A little short for a Dman, but there are many great dmen in that mold. He's a Hab! Hope he continues to live up to his press and progresses. I think he will in a big way. He reminds me of Doug Harvey with J.C. Tremblays skills. Hits better than Souray ever did. We can tolerate a few Traverse rookie mistakes with a one-year pass. I predict a long successful career even if he never played high school hockey in Minnesota.

Bourque was only 5'11, even Scott Stevens was only 6'2" although, I met him irl and he's closer to 6'1", looks 6'6" though, he was a monster and an iron handshake and I mean IRON.
I digress though, I think 6' is a great size for PK, especially when I bet he ends up around 210-215 in his prime, he's got a real solid frame. Already 200-205 and he's not even 21 yet.

The AHL dot com published a recent interview with PK. Hope you enjoy the read, the kid is a character. There probably isn't a microphone out there he does not like!! Good training for his eventual career in Montreal for sure. theahl.com/chats-s11605
