Found this article which discusses the attendance problems in Hamilton. Bulldogs ownership is looking at options such as moving the team but Habs management like the Hamilton location. www.thespec.com/News/Local/article/701852

I hope they stay. It's a short 20 minute drive from my house to Copps to check out all the Habs' prospects. I'll be at tomorrow night's game.

Is there a smaller, perhaps better suited, arena in Hamilton? Maybe if they play in a 5000 seat building, with less overhead, they don't lose as much. Maybe they even sell more tickets.

There has been rumours for 2 years now that the Bulldogs owner wants to move the team to St. John's. I know he has been here and has met with the city council, and I've heard him say that St. John's, in his mind, was the front running preferred location at one time ...

I am not sure what the attendance was last year, but this year's attendance should be looked at keeping in mind that many were probably saving their pennies hoping the Coyotes were moving there ....
... just out of curiosity, what is the ticket price for a Bulldog game in Hamilton?

I had season tickets and that was $750. The thing that used to bug me was that they sold $10 tickets behind the netting at the ends of the stadium .... .... I'd get season tickets if they came here.

The Dogs average 3967 after 22 games, about middle of the pack. It is below the AHL average of 4586. Hamilton's numbers are distorted a bit with over 16,000 showing up for the first Bell Centre game and with another one on Feb 21st, their average will get a boost again. Taking out the Bell Centre game, they average just under 3400 a game...lower down the list but still not too bad. They only had 2144 at last night's game, so the trend is downward. The arena owner ditched a lot of marketing folks once the whole NHL thing happened, as they shifted focus. Part of the problem is the Dogs rely on other to promote and sell their tickets.
Walk up tics are $26.
A bargoon actually for the quality of hockey. Likely less than $10 more than the average CHL ticket price, depending on location. For example, adult tics for the nearby Niagara Ice Dogs are $17 or $18 bucks for either end or side seats.

The capacity of the stadium here is 6250 (or thereabouts). I don't think the Leafs ever averaged lower than around 4800.
The Fog Devils averaged a lot lower. But I never thought junior hockey would catch on here ...

Just checked WHL averages, because I am curious and attend a number of games in different venues. The league average is 4178 so far this season. The last place Oil Kings (in a partially blacked out Rexall) average 4554. They had 9168 (mainly school kids) at a unique Hockey Hookey game yesterday that started at 11:30 am. Why didn't I ever get those kind of field trips? I attended two games over 12K last season, one a military appreciation night and another was a special event too. Great crowds for junior games.
The top dogs in the league are Calgary at 7956 and Van City at 7070. Calgary plays in the Saddledome and the Giants play at Pacific Coliseum. Medicine Hat only average 4006 every game, as they have for a number of years...but that is a sell out in their cool old funky barn.
Skilly, do any regular scheduled hockey games play out of Mile One right now or is it just a special events venue at this point?
