Just a heads up for everyone. Canada plays Finland on tv in just a few minutes, 8:30 Pacific, 11:30 Eastern. We should be able to watch Oskari Korpikari on defense. (For Finland, obviously). Earlier, Slovakia tied Russia 2-2, which suggests Jaroslav Halak, our goaltending prospect, may have had a good game, as Russia is much stronger on paper than the Slovaks. There is usually highlights between periods of the other games.
I'll move this is an hour or so. Go Canada (especially Nigel Dawes).

Solid game for Canada so far. The Dawes/Stewart/Richards line has been by far Canada's best. A little disappointed in the #1 line of Carter, Getzlaff and Burns. They're having a lot of trouble in their own end and aren't really producing any offense. But its early yet. It sure is nice having a big team. It seems that in almost every collision, the guys in red are the ones left standing.

Great game by Canada, the Stewart line has indeed been a force.
But the bias shown here by McGuire is becoming quite annoying.
So far he has said that Dion Phenuef (sp?) would have "bashed Bergenheim's head in" if the two got in a fight.
and "no way thats going to happen" after a Finnish player tried to carry the puck passed Pheneuf, who is going to be the next Pronger, or something like that.
Thats just two of many.
I know Canada has played a solid game so far, but he makes it sound like they can do no wrong, and they should just hand them the gold right now.
Give it a rest Pierre.

The first pass has been awful. Better in the second than the first, but still needs serious improvement. Chalk it up to width of the ice for one. However, there were a lot of blind passes to "position". Defencemen were passing to where they assumed forwards would be instead of where they were.
The forward core is strong down low. The Finn blue line can't handle them at all. Some good communication all around there.
Phaneuf is gonna be really good. Seldom do you see a guy that big with footwork that good. Not only is his footwork good, but he has very good anticipation, speed and hockey sense. I see another Pronger in him.
Crosby phas played pretty well so far. He's not been a liability and has manage to create chances for linemates. All in all a good first game so far for the 16 year old.
Paille and Talbot have been very good. Paille is definitely the leader of the team, and so far a good choice for captain.
The team overall is skating hard and putting effective pressure on them consistantly.
****** Stewart just scored!!************
We're not having to rely on Fleury. That's a good sign.
The officiating has been pretty good so far. The ref's name is Anderson - not sure if he's Swedish or not. At any rate he's been consistant. A week call or two, but nothing glaring. Until the call on Getzlaf. Scoreboard call indeed! Up to now, PK has been very good. Special teams success will go a long way to helping us down the road.
All in all this has been a strong effort for the first game. Something to really build on. The Finns were strong favorites, and we've been physically dominant.
